Inquiry on IPV6 projects in Fedora
by Buddhike Kurera
Hello Folks,
I found following email at summer-coding list. May be there can be some
interested folks to answer and support. So I took the liberty of
forwarding the mail.
As I can understood, this student is interested in IP6 hence networking related
project ideas related with Fedora.
Do we have any?
Thanks for the support.

staging new world order
by Kevin Fenzi
We agreed at fudcon (well, before then really) that we didn't like some
of the current setup with staging and we were going to redo it. We came
up with some plans at fudcon and I have been working on implementing
those this week. ;)
So, in the new staging world order how will things work?
EVERYTHING will be in the master puppet branch.
There is a 'staging' environment. This should be set on any nodes that
are being used for staging. (ie, "$puppetEnvironment='staging'" should
appear at the top of any node being used for staging things.
Workflow for staging changes:
1. If you don't need to make any puppet related config changes, don't
do anything. (ie, a new version of an app that uses the same config
files, etc). Just update on the host and test.
2. If you need to make puppet changes in the module of the application:
- cp modules/$yourmodulename modules-staging/$yourmodulename
- git add modules-staging/$yourmodulename; git commit -a
- make changes you need to modules-staging/$yourmodulename
- test, make more changes to it, etc.
- diff -Nur modules-staging/$yourmodulename modules/$yourmodulename and
check your changes for sanity.
- rsync -avr modules-staging/$yourmodulename modules/$yourmodulename
- git rm -rf modules-staging/$yourmodulename
3. If you need to make changes outside of your module:
- Make use of files ending with .staging (see resolv.conf in global for
an example). So, if there's persistent changes in staging from
production like a different config file, use this.
- Conditionalize on environment:
if $puppetEnvironment == 'staging' {
yourcode
}
else{
productiononly code
}
- These changes can stay if they are helpful for further testing down
the road. Ideally normal case is that staging and production pull
from the same module unless there's active testing of changes being
made (ie, there is no modules-staging/ unless something is being
staged.)
Now, hopefully this isn't too much burden on app folks or those who
test with staging. If so, please scream now. ;)
Additional things we can do:
Since all the 'in progress' changes are in modules-staging, we can run
a script (once a week?) to list those modules and ask 'hey, are you
still testing this? can it be nuked or merged?' Perhaps with a attached
'diff -Nur modules-staging modules' attached?
Does this work for everyone? If so, I will make the change in the next
few days and get it done with. I need to work on
app01.stg/app02.stg/proxy01.stg. They will need some config files that
are for staging, but otherwise shouldn't be too bad.

Freeze break request: fix mirrormanager sync for vpn hosts
by Kevin Fenzi
I removed the old 'bapp1.vpn.fedoraproject.org' entry from dns the
other day because I didn't think we used it anymore.
Turns out that we do in a mirrormanager sync script.
This is preventing app05 and app06 from getting up to date mirror
lists.
The following should fix it.
Plus +1s? I might just apply it and ask for forgiveness since this is potentially causing an issue.

GSoC idea to setup Gitlab for Fedora Hosted
by Jeffrey S. Haemer
Stas,
Looks like fun. Fedora Hosted supports a variety of SCM tools, not just
git. Is there a way to fit Gitlab in with that?

Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Jeffrey S. Haemer
by Jeffrey S. Haemer
Hi. I'm Jeff, and I'm a neophile. (Everybody: "Hi, Jeff.")
I'm sitting in Caffe Sole, in Boulder, Colorado, which is on Mountain Time.
I started doing Unix over 30 years ago. My first commercial Unix job was
working on the first port of Unix to an Intel box. I have an original set
of PC/IX disks and manuals in my office. 5 1/4" floppies. "Why, when I
was a boy, ...." etc. You'd think I'd have learned something, wouldn't
you?
Wrong.
Still, I keep trying as a sentinel. They say you can't teach an old dog
new tricks, so when I finally learn something, I'll know I'm entering my
second childhood.
One thing I'm hot to learn is Puppet. I finally talked my boss into
letting me take a 3-day course from Puppet Labs, which means I know the
basics, but would now like adult supervision. I meet friends to geek out
every Thursday, and can probably do 2-4 hours a week, then.
I know some C and Perl, more shell, and a bit of Ruby. I do SCM, so I can
get by in git and write Makefiles and stuff. My English is better than
you'd expect, even though it *is* my native language.
My IRC handle is "goyishekop".
More questions? Ask away.

Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Dan Bahena (aka Kwame Bahena)
by Kwame Bahena
IRC name - Kwame
I've used Fedora since it's core days and before that Red Hat Linux
and before that some other distros (which doesn't mean that I still
use some other distros besides Fedora). Started using linux around
1998.
Currently I work for a big video game company as a Linux
Sysadmin/Engineer. My skills go from apache, firewalls, openldap,
virtualization, networking, HA, puppet and much more.
I would like to work mainly on sysadmin tasks to start getting used to
the infrastructure.
I've been meaning to give back to the community from which I've
received so much, that's why now I'm joining this group.
Best regards,
