Why glxgears Is Slower with Kernel Mode Setting, Why It Doesn't Matter
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://osnews.com/story/21133/Why_glxgears_Is_Slower_with_Kernel_Mode_Set...
"Fedora Project has been on the forefont of development and adoption of
kernel mode setting to enhance the desktop linux experience by making
fairly invasive infrastructure improvements that affect the interaction
between Xorg and the Linux kernel. In the past, one of the common way to
test Xorg performance has been to use glxgears. While that hasn't been a
particular good way to do it ever, the switch to kernel mode setting for
Intel drivers ahead of the Fedora 11 Beta release to be available
shortly has exposed the fallacy of this. In short, don't use glxgears.
There are better methods to assess performance."

This Weekend
by Jack Aboutboul
Hey All,
So on the heels of everything that went on this week, there are a couple
of things that could use some love over the weekend.
First and foremost, at the meeting, the In Depth Features coverage idea
was announced and there was a page up here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F11_in-depth_features . If people can
please pick up the remaining features by Monday that would be a great
help and then we can discuss them on Tuesday's upcoming meeting.
Also, if anyone has remaining tasks relating to the News Distribution
Network or anything on the schedule page, we're coming up on beta
quickly so now is the time to get cracking, let the list know if you
need help.
Finally, Ian, can you let us know if we can open up the submissions for
the picture book. I guess school dragged you away from everything, but
if we are cool I would like to start spamming planet. Btw, the image
submission stuff is here for anyyone who doesn't know:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Submitting_images_for_the_picture_book
Thanks,
Jack

Event Report on Fedora Talk in OSI Days Chennai
by Balaji G
Hi Everyone
I am extremely thrilled and pleased to announce that my talk in OSI Days was
a real good success. The talk was quite short and I started off with
A Survey on how many in the audience have heard about Fedora and there was
quite a good number and then I started off with the following
1. What is Fedora
2. What's the Speciality of the Fedora Project
3. What role does Redhat Play in contributing to fedora.
4. What's the role I play in Fedora
5. What's the advantage in Contributing to Fedora and i asked
interested people to get my email ID offline to know more on how to
contribute
and I assured them that i could help them to get into World Of
Open Source Software through Fedora.
6. Question & answers
Then people when i got off the stage asked for my email IDs and have asked
me to give talks in LUG and lot of people had questions like
"i want to do some programming but i am not sure how do i do it in
Ubuntu " these sort of questions came up and then i took that opportunity to
tell them that i would help you do that by asking them to install fedora and
assured them that they could copy of DVD from me. Lot of students wanted to
do projects but they didn't know how to get into Fedora so i answered those
questions and have asked them to contact me through email and then i would
bring them onto the IRC channels. I have also asked them to log in to
#fedora-classroom on the April First Weekend where i would be taking IRC
sessions on kernel topics and Virtualization.
I strongly feel that this would bring in more users and contributors and I
would be giving more talks too in the future.
It was a pretty exciting day and i would be sharing some photos soon .
Thanks,
Cheers,
Balaji

Fedora 10: Living on the edge
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://yatsite.blogspot.com/2008/12/fedora-10-living-on-edge.html
"Some people ask me from time to time what will Linux be after 6 months
or a year, what changes are planned, which features will be implemented.
The answer is actually very simple: Try Fedora & see first-hand! What
you see in Fedora now will be used by all distributions' next releases.
Since the creation of the Fedora Project, when the distro was named
"Fedora Core" the goal was clear:push innovation to the limit, try new
technologies, live on the edge!! At first many considered Fedora a test
tube for Red Hat and maybe it was. But now it is for all! What other
distros consider risky and "not mature" Fedora delivers it and with
style I might add. Because Fedora always was rightfully proud about its
artwork and never gave as an unstable OS."

[Picture book] time to open submissions?
by Ian Weller
I think we've got a pretty good procedure down. It's available at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Submitting_images_for_the_picture_book
Max helped me out yesterday by making a simpler procedure (i.e., we look
at a flickr photo set or something) and I cleared up a few things.
I'd like to know by tomorrow about this time whether or not we should
open it up. Unless I get a good reason for a -1, I'll go ahead and add
the "now accepting submissions" banner to the fp.o rotation (woo we get
to compete with F11 beta) and we'll flood the Planet with blog posts and
get rolling.

Fedora 11 preview
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://linuxsysconfig.com/2009/03/fedora-11-preview/
"Fedora 11 Alpha is fast and incredibly stable... There are still more
than 2 months before the final release is out and plenty of features to
be 100% completed (e.g. 20SecondStartup). I’m sure Fedora 11 will be an
amazing release, making user experience even more pleasant."
