thanks for helping me through that. issue
was resolved by installing the 32 bit sssd-client
now if I could just get them to use
a 64 bit httpd or Red Hat's apache...

Install the i686 version of sssd-client
On RHEL it would be:
yum install sssd-client-1.9.2-82.7.el6_4.i686
