Fedora 64-bit running much slower
by John Trager
Hi All,
I have just used my Fedora 5 64-bit for the first time in perhaps a couple of weeks, and it now is running much slower! It's like the CPU is running at 240Mhz, instead 2400Mhz! Doesn't anyone of any idea what maybe going on? Are there any system setting that would slow the computer down? I haven't changed anything since I have used it last...
AMD Athlon64 3800+
2GB RAM
ASUS AV8 Motherboard
Thanks,
John

Newbie: Wireless card drivers
by Ravi Malghan
Hi: I just downloded Fedora and was beginning to
install on Thinkpad T22 that has a Netgear (MA521)
wireless card. Does the Fedora 5 have drivers for this
card?
If the answer is no, any ideas which wireless card I
should buy?
Thanks
Ray

booting Xen
by George Hill
I followed the Fedora Xen Quickstart for FC5
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraXenQuickstartFC5)and
when I booted got a message saying (approximately):
Kernel panic on CPU 0
IO + APIC + timer doesn't work...try booting with the
noapic option
But I was already using the noapic option.
I am running on a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ AM2.
Any help would be appreciated.

smart package mgr question?
by Gene Heskett
Greetings all;
I just ran smart pkg mgr on my FC5 lappy, and any cups I click on claims it
will downgrade 3 packages if I exec it. What the heck? Yumex doesn't
seem to have that problem.

Re: fc6 test 3 help
by Guy Schlosser
You said try Uncommenting what? Also, the problem seems to happen
when it goes for the Anaconda-base repo that I think is looking for
the CD. Do I need that file? I'm really confused.
Thanks,
Guy

Howto fix missing kde Applications menu?
by Neal Becker
My kde start menu is missing "Applications". This seems to be an issue
because various apps come with a .desktop file that want to put things
there. Like, cxoffice for example.
I don't know what's wrong. If I use kmenuedit, I can make a new entry that
I name "Applications", but it doesn't seem to work. I notice that I now
have:
~/.local/share/desktop-directories/Applications-2.directory
I guess it renamed it to -2 to avoid a conflict? Doesn't seem to work.
For example, I have:
~/.local/share/applications/Configuration.desktop:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=Application
X-Created-By=cxoffice-0
Icon=/home/nbecker/cxoffice/support/icons/crossover.xpm
Exec=sh -c "/home/nbecker/cxoffice/bin/cxsetup"
Name=Configuration
Name[ru]=Настройка
Name[pl]=Konfiguracja
Name[pt]=Configuração
Name[ja]=構成
Name[pt_BR]=Configuração
Name[de]=Konfiguration
Neither this entry nor the Applications submenu show up on my start menu.
Any hints?

fc6 test 3 help
by Guy Schlosser
Hey all, if I could get some help with FC6, test 3, I'd greatly
appreciate it. I installed my FC6 test 3 from a DVD ISO, and have
two problems. Number 1: When I run Yum, I get an error that says
"cannot read repomd.xml". 2: there is no GCC on my hard drive. I
selected the web server check boxes during the package installation,
and all seemed to go OK. Can I install more packages (such as
GCC)? What is the best way to do that? Also, how can I get yum to
work for me? Thanks in advance for any help.
Thanks,
Guy

Desperate cry for help: setting up MX records
by Alan M. Evans
This is probably off-topic, so I'll be brief. (Really trying to avoid
subscribing to yet another list.) Somebody here must know.
My server hosts two domains. I've set up mail for one of those domains
and everything has been working for some time. I tried setting up mail
on the other domain without the slightest success.
I really need someone willing to hold my hand through the setup. If you
want to work it out on list then I could post more details, but like I
said, I think it's a bit off-topic.
Please! I've tried everything I can imagine. I've employed all the
google incantations. I'm generally a pretty smart guy, but this has me
floundering.

Bash Understanding - Help
by Dan Track
Hi
I've got this little script and to run the commands I copy the
commands into my paste buffer by selecting the lines. The script was
opened in vi.
The script contains some parts that require manual intervention so for
example I would have:
cd /opt
mkdir java
scp -rp server:/opt/java/java* java/
cd java
ls
If I paste the above to a shell it will run all the way up until the
"scp" command. After completing the scp command the shell returms me
to a prompt. The rest of the script isn't run. Can someone please
explain why this is happening?
Thanks in advance
Dan
