Segmentation fault at malloc.c:4232

I have written a program and it failed with "Segmentation fault". With
gdb, it seems that there is something wrong in the malloc.c:

Yum packages (again)

Ok, I know a little of this has been covered before, but I have some new
info after some exhaustive debugging.
After the feedback regarding the repo conflicts, I decided to resolve
this once and for all. I uninstalled all mplayer, x264 and xine
packages, and reinstalled only the livna versions.
This produced mixed results. Firstly, Yum reported the packages
installed. When you go back and check what is installed (version, etc)
it stated that the freshrpms versions were installed- but only some. So
I ended up with some livna and some freshrpms, despite the fact that I
selected only livna packages to be installed.
So I uninstalled it all again. This time I went to the livna site and
downloaded and installed them manually. Now it came up and said
installed, but some codecs weren't installing due to a missing
libx264.so.56. I checked again what was installed and what provided
x264- livna was installed.
This seemed very confusing to me, so I physically checked the contents
of the rpm. The livna package did contain the library file
libx264.so.56- so why didn't the livna package repo recognise its own
files?
I also checked the freshrpms version, and this contained libx264.so.58.
Technically then, Yum shouldn't be declaring that libx264.so.56 is
contained in the freshrpms file, and the 2 versions shouldn't conflict,
should they?
So I put it to all- what the hell is going on here? Neither repo appears
to be able to declare what the packages ACTUALLY provide, and Yum is
getting very confused. So who's fault is it? Where does the
responsibility lie?

F8 drivers for ASUS EeePC??

Having bought an ASUS EeePC (4 GB version), I soon discovered its
native OS, Xandros, far more Windowy than I could stomach. So I tried
several others, and had various troubles.
Having eventually discovered the Redhat Magazine discussion,
entitled "Fedora + Eee PC = Eeedora" -- which is at http://
www.redhatmagazine.com/2008/02/14/fedora-eee-pc-eeedora/#comment-55444 --
I of course tried F8.
At present both F8 and Puppy 3.01eee are installed, booting, and
running; but only the Puppy (from a USB stick, fwiw) can connect to the
Net. Fedora fails, both wirelessly and with an ethernet cable.
To judge from much discussion of these and other attempts, the
likeliest problem seems to be drivers, for eth0 and ath0.
Compiling is beyond me. Does anyone know if any pre-compiled
drivers for F8 for this machine are available anywhere?

Problem with hard drive lock out

Hey All,
I'm having a vexing problem with FC8 losing connection to one of my
hard drives. I've had it drop out in a matter of a few minutes. This
time it was working for several days before it quit.
I have two drives on my system. One SATA drive has the system
installed on it. The other, plugged into the IDE header has data files
on it. The SATA drive runs fine. The IDE drive will eventually quit
working. I can cd onto the drive as long as I don't try to access
something that is not already in the disk cache. When I try to access
the drive I get this error:

I've been running Linux for many years on many boxes but I've never
encountered a situation like this. The only way I've found to restore
operation is a to reboot.
Anyone got any clues??

Sharing /var between systems

I have Fedora-7 and Fedora-8 on the same computer.
Can I share /var between them?
(I have the Fedora-7 /var on a separate partition.
If possible, I'd like to use this with the new system.)

usb hub working with linux fedora

Hello,
I have tried a cheap usb hub but it doesn't work with fedora 8.
I have googled a lot to find more about usb hubs brands working with
linux but didn't find anything.
Is there a brand of usb hub that works with fedora 8?

Sound works but panel volume control doesn't

New Fedora 8 installation.
My sound works, i.e. if I go to System-Administration-Sound Card
Detection and click on Sound test I get music out of the speakers.
The sound card is an Intel 82801H using module snd-hda-intel.
However the volume control just says "No volume control GStreamer
plugins and/or devies found".
I have gstreamer installed.

Treo USB no longer creating ttyUSB[01] devices???

OK, something else that's broken in F8.
At some point in the past when we'd plug in a Treo 700p USB cable to
hotsync (which occasionally actually worked), devices /dev/ttyUSB0
and /dev/ttyUSB1 were created to access the phone. Now when I plug it
in I only see lines like:

When I plug in my Verizon broadband wireless USB modem I see ttyUSB0 and
ttyUSB1 created, but no longer for the Treo.
Any ideas/hints on why the tty devices are no longer created?
