Multiple IP addresses without aliasing?

Do the Fedora network init scripts support additional secondary IP
addresses without the use of alias labels? Does an option for IPv4
addresses exist that works like IPV6ADDR_SECONDARIES?
I just skimmed /usr/share/doc/initscripts-*/sysconfig.txt, but I
didn't see anything to that effect, so I'm guessing the answer is no,
and I have to use aliases and 'ifcfg-eth?:0' files.

yes i am doing also doing --delete and --exclude some directories from a list. Here is command i am using
rsync -e ssh -l bkp-user -avR --delete --exclude-from=${EXCLUDES}
@Tony as i mentioned earlier, i am using my host VM for heavy REMOTE backups
so I cant shutdown/mount any of my REMOTE live box to take backup.
I have taken very big backups in past on xen based VM's.
Chocking Network due to heavy rsync is something amazing for me.
Any other solution will be appreciated.

xfig font failure

I haven't used xfig since updating from Fedora-10 to Fedora-11, and
today when I finally had occasion to try it, it doesn't work:
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset
Warning: Cannot convert string "6x13" to type FontStruct
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font
Google tells me that Debian people found this results from a missing
"gsfonts-X11" package, but Fedora has no such package.
What am I missing?

KDE RPMs look strange -- duplicates?

I have trouble with the KDE solitaire program (shameful to admit). It
keeps putting up an error box saying:
We are sorry KbuildSycoca closed unexpectedly
and offering to let me submit a but. Unfortunately the bug submission
procession produces similar messages.
And, in fact, invoking "$ kbuildsycoca4" (which appears to be the actual
program causing the trouble) fails, producing a similar error box.
Looking over the situation, I noticed a strange thing about the KDE RPMs
on the system. There seem to be duplicates, namely:

Is this normal, or is something out of line? I run Gnome mostly, but

Where is pulseaudio started?

I found this article:

but it appears that it no longer applies.
$ ps -ef | grep pulse
steve 30603 1 0 10:07 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio
--start --log-target=syslog
so either pulseaudio was started by init or whatever started it has
since died. Anyway it is not started by gnome-session.
$ ps -ef | grep gnome-session
steve 30486 17079 0 10:07 ? 00:00:00 gnome-session
I can't find any reference to pulseaudio in any init file
# grep pulse /etc/*init*
#
So where does it get started?

F11, OpenLDAP: can append to files, but not write, acl not a mount option

I've installed a new F11 server, w/OpenLDAP. Users access an lvm/ext4 volume via netatalk & samba. Selinux is permissive.
Some users were getting "sharing violation" or "disk full" for afp and smb respectively on some existing files, though 2.2TB are free and new files were fine.
I found that when opening a shell as these users (#su - username), they indeed could NOT edit the files, at least with vim. What they could do was "append" to the files via "# echo 1 >>badfile.html ". Then after appending, vim would write to that file just fine and netatalk & samba were now happy with that file too.
I've run lsattr, I've run setfacl to list permissions, I've updated the kernel, I've rebooted, I've run fsck, I've checked "mount" for acl, I've checked syslog . . . I'm stumped.
I thought that if you couldn't write, you couldn't append either? Any ideas?

F11: CTRL-ALT-F2 not working

Hi
when pressing CTRL-ALTF-F2 to switch to text console, the screen stay
in graphic mode, only the mouse cursor disappears.
I can blindly login, type some command; see the hard disk light blink
at each command, then go back using ALT-F1 and see I logged in on
tty2.
But switching between tty1 an tty2 never change my display.
I have a Laptop Compaq Evo N610c with a ATI RADEON Mobility M7.
It was working fine with FC8.
Any idea ?

Web server on virtual box - iptables design question

Hi guys,
I have F11 on the physical box and under KVM I have virtual system where I
run Apache as a web server. Physical box has two public IPs - one is used
for physical box management,
anohter (VDMZ_PUBL_IP) is used to access virtual system. Virtual system
itself has private IPs, so I have NAT configured in IPTABLES. It also means
that virtual system is not aware of it's public IP and it "thinks" it has
only the private IP. Also please note to make things simple - I do not have
IPTABLES rules set on the virtual server - all rules are set on physical
server only.
First I made SSH work so I can log-in into virtual system - it works fine.
Then (using the similar rules) I configured Apache on virtual box - and it
works from outside as expected.
However before I setup web application from outside successfuly, I was
forced to setup a fixed URI link in my application - which I did as
http://public_IP/ to make it work from outside.
My (design) problem occured when I discovered that actually I cannot access
my Application using public IP directly from virtual system (=from inside) -
as I have no rules for this situation.
I tried to add some - but it did not work, however I'm in doubt if it can
work at all:
My idea was to set the rule in PREROUTING (on the physical box) in a way
that if virtual server tries to access its own public address, it will be
changed back to private one and (hopefully) forwared back:
I tried both of below rules (one at a time) and none really worked:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p TCP -i virbr0 -m physdev --physdev-in
vnet1-d $VDMZ_PUBL_IP -j DNAT --to-destination $VDMZ_PRIV_IP
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p TCP -i virbr0 -d $VDMZ_PUBL_IP -j DNAT
--to-destination $VDMZ_PRIV_IP
However now I'm in doubt if this is ever possible:
- Will iptables allow packet to be forwarded back to the same interface
where it was received from?
- Or should I set some rules in Apache itself using mod_rewrite? (so in such
a case packet won't leave the virtual machine)
- Are there any risks with that when I decide to use HTTPS? (However HTTP
only from inside of the virtual system and HTTPS from outside is acceptable
as well)
Is there any other solution so I can access my own system from the virtual
system using it's public IP?
