ssh colors vs. bash colors
by Dennis Jacobfeuerborn
Hi,
I noticed that when I ssh into a CentOS 7 Host I get slightly darker
colors in the ls output compared to the local (gnome-terminal) bash.
Since I'm using a dark background the darker blue used for directories
for example on the remote host is harder to read then the slightly
brighter blue used on the local system.
Does anyone have an idea why the colors are different and how to change
that?

Renaming network devices in fedora23
by Alex
Hi,
I have a fedora23 server with eno1 and enp0s25. I'd like to rename
them to eth0 and eth1. I'm familiar with all the network changes that
have occurred over the years with biosdevname, etc. Reading section
8.2 of the Networking Guide manual:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/22/html/Networking_Guide/sec-...
says I can create a rule in /etc/udev/rules.d/60-net.rules, but it
doesn't specify how to actually create that rule.
Given my past experience, I created the following:
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*",
ATTR{address}=="00:25:90:ab:ab:1f", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*",
NAME="eth1"
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*",
ATTR{address}=="00:25:90:ab:ab:1e", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*",
NAME="eth0"
This kind of works. It reads my ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1 and creates
interfaces by those names, but they are switched. The 1e interface is
eth1 and the 1f interface is is eth0. Is it not possible to control
the MAC address to a specific interface name? Of course I tried
switching "eth1" and "eth0" and rebooting, but it didn't even matter.
This used to be called 70-persistent-net.rules. I believe I tried to
create that file and it worked the same as the 60-net.rules file.
There really isn't any current discussion about how people are doing this.
Thanks,
Alex

ms office 2007 msxml5.0 dll problem on WINWORD exit
by Nick Zhokhov
I installed ms office 2007 on FC23 64 bits.
When one is closed word one appeares error message about
trouble concerning msxml5.0.
I googled but not found clear information on that.
Under .wine.
I looked for msxml5.dll
It is found one Progam Files (x86)/ Common Files/Microsoft Shared/OFFICE11
then I trasfered depends.exe utility from studio
and checked
wine depends path to/msxml5.dll
It turns out 64 bit.
I renamed it to msxml5.dll_64 bit
then found and grub msxml5.dll from
windows xp office 2007 native installation.
It was in similar path but under Program Files\ ...
After that
wine WINWORD has no error on close.
By the way
wine WINWORD.EXE &> 1.log
grep xml 1.log
before dll replacing from 64 bit to 32 bit there was error message to load
msxml5.dll
I wanted to add some comment about this problem but lazy one makes
registration.
So I wonder why office installer put 64 bit dll instead of 32 bit.
Hope this help someone.

OT: sed/awk help
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
Don't know whether this requires a "sed" and/or an "awk" solution. I
have strings in a log file whose only important info for a digest are
new strings containing the date, time, and the remainder of the line
following the first occurrence of a hyphen. All delimiters are spaces
until the first hyhpen (there may be multiple hyphens but I only care
about the first).
Here is what the original line looks like:
date time txt1 txt2 txt3: txt4 txt5 txt6 txt7 domain-email
Here is what I'm looking for:
date time partFollowingHyphen1
Way beyond my sedawk-foo.
Any takers?
Thanks in advance,
Mike Wright

knotes
by Walter Cazzola
Dear Linux Experts,
I'm running KDE (Plasma 5) on my Fedora23 machine and using knotes to
keep my notes.
I've manually upgraded them from the previous version of KDE and for a
while everything was going well but for some KDE internal problems
akonadi stopped working and I'd to remove all its configuration files to
have it running again. This implied that I lost my calendars, contacts
and notes (all managed by akonadi and kpim applications).
Re-adding the service has worked for calendars and contacts but not for
notes. In this last case knotes is starting but it is not showing my
notes (it is ready only for new notes).
My notes are still there in the directory
.kde/share/apps/knotes/new
each notes in a separate file but simply invisible to the knotes
application. It seems that the note.ics file is empty and I don't know
how to relink it to the old notes.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
Walter

F23 does not renew dhcp leases correctly and corrupts DDNS
by Dr J Austin
I am running an F23 machine (paxos) with a C6.7 dhcp/ddns server (maui) - both fully updated
I have the ability to "RESET" the dhcp/ddns to a default condition on the server(maui)
Aside
I have another F23 client (naxos) that has NOT been fully updated and works correctly
I also have an Android smart phone that works correctly and updates the DNS
whenever it is reconnected or powered up.
Following a "RESET" of the server and a clean boot of an F23 client (paxos)
things are fine - the client (paxos) shows dhclient running with the lease file listed
and server (maui) messages are as shown
First boot from clean - hdclient is running on paxos

####################################################################################################
This is very bad news as the IP address of the client has been changed but
DNS is still pointing to the old IP address!
Things that may be important
1. The name of the lease file is different between the first boot and the second
dhclient-37107b25-12bf-4de0-935e-12b9b6062fb4-eno1.lease
dhclient-81ded380-936a-405c-83f2-bfd5b980f69d-eno1.lease
2. The default-duid value in these files is different
Hence giving the "no DHCID, not mine" error above I assume
default-duid "\000\001\000\001\0368\255;x$\257:~:";
default-duid "\000\001\000\001\0368\264\335x$\257:~:";
In the case of the working client (naxos) then the name of the lease file remains the same
between boots and the default-duid is the same within that file
A typical reboot request from the working F23 machine (naxos) is shown here
Jan 25 12:14:50 maui named[25341]: client 148.197.29.5#47180: updating zone 'jaa.org.uk/IN': update unsuccessful: naxos.jaa.org.uk: 'name not in use' prerequisite not satisfied (YXDOMAIN)

3. Again no DHCPDISCOVER is issued by the smart phone client
I have tried downgrading the following on the failing client to no avail
NetworkManager, dhcp-client, nm-connection-editor
I have tried booting with an older kernel
4. I am using ddns-update-style interim; on the server as I believe
that dhcp-4.1.1-49.P1.el6.centos.x86_6 does not support "standard"
interim "uses TXT RRs instead of DHCID RRs"
However the error message does refer to "Has an address record but no DHCID, not mine."
I may have somehow screwed up the configuration on the failing machine or the server
but I don't think so.
Any help/advice gratefully received!

gvim and gnupg plugin
by Joseph Loo
I am having problems with gvim and gpupg plugin for gvim. Whenever I try
to open the open a .gpg file it comes back with
"Message could not be decrypted"
When I open the same file, with vim, it works with no problems. I
downloaded the git files for gnupg.vim from the git repository. It has
Dec 17, 2015 marked as the latest change.
I put the file in /usr/share/vim/vimfiles/plugin
I do notice that standard gpg will not start gpg-agent but if I run gpg2
it will start the gpg-agent
I have in the gpg.conf file
use-agent
uncommented

Keyserver timeout
by Patrick O'Callaghan
Trying to add a GPG key from a well-known keyserver (keys.mit.edu) but
I'm getting timeouts:
$ gpg --keyserver keys.mit.edu --recv <xxxxxxx>
gpg: requesting key <xxxxxxx> from hkp server keys.mit.edu
gpg: keyserver timed out
gpg: keyserver receive failed: keyserver error
Same thing happens with other keyservers such as keys.gpg.org.
Googling for this throws up multiple reports of it being caused by a
firewall blocking access to port 11371 (the hkp protocol). I tried
opening this port but it makes no difference.
Suggestions welcome.

Cross compilers, but not libraries?
by Tom Horsley
In fedora 23, there are cross compilers available in the repos.
For example:
gcc-aarch64-linux-gnu.i686 : Cross-build binary utilities for aarch64-linux-gnu
gcc-c++-aarch64-linux-gnu.i686 : Cross-build binary utilities for
: aarch64-linux-gnu
binutils-aarch64-linux-gnu.i686 : Cross-build binary utilities for
: aarch64-linux-gnu
But, there are no cross libraries apparently. Is there some
standard way people get libraries for cross development?
