USB rtl8192eu not connecting.
by Michael D. Setzer II
I've tried two usb rtl8192eu devices I've used in the
past, but now I can not get either to connect with
Fedora 30 or Fedora 31?
The devices load, and will even see the wifi, but the
connection fails.

Have tried with a notebook with built-in wifi, and it can
connect to either wifi no problem. So, know password
and all are correct. Tried on desktop system without
built-in wifi, and it get the same error.
Is there something that might cause the failure, or is
there a way to see more detail on the error. Just says
connection failed.
Thanks.

Raid array empty after restart
by Patrick O'Callaghan
Still getting the hang of md. I had it working for several days (2

suddenly shows no data:

How is this possible? The only thing that touches the array is a borg

if the mount is mounting the wrong thing.
Or am I missing something very obvious?

troubles starting virt-manager as a user
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
Normally when I start virt-mamager, I get a root password
prompt from xfce-polkit. I accidentally pressed
"Deny". Now it won't start from a user anymore
But I can start it from a shell as user root.
But I can not use "su" or "beesu" to start it
from a user's account:
$ su root -c virt-manager

wayland or not with nvidia
by hw
Hi,
what is the current status of wayland with nvidia drivers in Fedora 32?
Some search results seem to indicate that it's supposed to work by default.
Others indicate that it still doesn't work. The actual result is that it
does not work unless I use the nouveau driver instead. Unfortunately, the
lack of performance with nouveau still requires nvidia drivers.
If it's supposed to work, how do I get it to work?

bash/awk equivalent code to gnu datamash
by olivares33561@protonmail.com
Dear fellow fedora users,
If I have a data file called 15.dat with the following content:
$ cat 15.dat
1
3
1
0
2
And I want to find min, quartile 1, median, quartile 3 and maximum (Five number summary)
We can use datamash like
$ cat 15.dat | datamash min 1 q1 1 median 1 q3 1 max 1 0 1 1.5 2.75 6
Q3 is reported as 2.75 but if we split the data file in half the number is 3.
$ sort 15.dat
0
1
1
2
3
6
$ cat GF19.dat
14
0
4
0
0
1
1
7
1
0
3
1
2
0
$
$ sort GF19.dat
0
0
0
0
0
1
1
1
1
14
2
3
4
7
$
Is incorrect, the 14 is biggest or max
We use -n for numeric
$ sort GF19.dat -n
0
0
0
0
0
1
1
1
1
2
3
4
7
14
It works but q3 is also 2.75 but by hand is 3
$ cat GF19.dat | datamash min 1 q1 1 median 1 q3 1 max 1
0 0 1 2.75 14
$
If we apply a code using sort and awk
From
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/13731/is-there-a-way-to-get-the-...
we can get min, max, median and average
sort -n | awk '{a[i++]=$0;s+=$0}END{print a[0],a[i-1],(a[int(i/2)]+a[int((i-1)/2)])/2,s/i}'
How can we find q1 and q3 to generate five number summary? And does it give 3 for q3 for both files. I want to use datamash, but question why it outputs 2.75 and not 3?
7
14
$ cat 15.dat | sort -n | awk '{a[i++]=$0;s+=$0}END{print a[0],a[i-1],(a[int(i/2)]+a[int((i-1)/2)])/2,s/i}'
0 6 1.5 2.16667
$
It outputs min, max, median and average. Average is optional. Only min, q1, median, q3 and max is needed.
Thank you in advance,
Antonio

Firewalld and none superuser
by Earl Ramirez
Dear All,
Previously, when I run firewall-cmd --list-all or any firewalld
commands as a regular user it will failed, with authorization failure.
Today I noticed that if I run firewall-cmd --list-all I can see the
rules; however, I am not able to modify the firewall rules without a
superuser privileges.
Is this the expected behaviour to be able to see the firewall rules as
a regular user or should I file a bug?

The restorecon problem is coming back
by Ron Yorston
On 6th May an update to selinux-policy for Fedora 32 (3.14.5-38.fc32)
caused all filesystems to be relabelled. In my case this took over
twelve hours. I was not happy.
It appears the developers have a workaround for the problem but the
update that applies it will cause all filesystems to be relabelled
if you already have the borked 3.14.5-38.fc32 update.
The new update is currently in updates-testing and will no doubt be
making its way onto our systems soon enough. The developers say[1]:
Please note updating from the previous package version
selinux-policy-3.14.5-38.fc32 will have all filesystems relabeling
as a result which cannot be prevented. If relabeling takes a lot
of time, consider unmounting some filesystems, updating manually,
postponing the update to later.
You have been warned.
Ron
