What platform?  What version of 389-ds-base?  Can you install the 
389-ds-base-debuginfo package?
You will have to enable the directory server to produce a core dump. 
1) edit /etc/sysconfig/dirsrv-instancename - add ulimit -c unlimited
2) sysctl -w fs.suid_dumpable=1
