They were<br>> all familiar with some basic programming languages, and operating<br>> systems, but most of them were new to Linux.<br>> <br>> The whole two hour session was lecture based with some tutorials. In<br>> the first half, I started with 26 reasons why we should use Linux and<br>> open source software, and how it is a superior choice for academics.<br>> <br>> I then demonstrated the installation of Fedora 17, and told them more<br>> about RPM, and how to use yum and RPM to install packa
ges on Fedora,<br>> and introduced them to the different desktop environments.<br>> <br>> In the second half, I showed them how to easily install a file sharing<br>> server for home and named it as "Install file sharing server in 5 mins<br>> with Fedora". I also provided them with Fedora 17 dvd iso for i686 and<br>> x86_64. Some robotics students asked for Fedora 17 robotics spin.
