You're all writing about $HOME organisation, which is orthogonal to the
FHS since the current FHS does not specify it.
And yes cleaning up the $HOME mess (hidden dirs/files with random
conventions) would be nice, but it's a major work and requires at least
Gnome+KDE buy-in (then years of hunting offending apps)
