For Fedora vs. In Fedora [Was: What would it take to make Software Collections work in Fedora?]

Hi all,

As we have EPEL _for_ RHEL we can have things _for_ Fedora as opposed
to _in_ Fedora. It is how several VARs do with their software _for_
RHEL in the Red Hat world.

Some years ago JPackage.org had a yum repo with JBoss AS (community
version) that was tailored to be installed in Fedora. Just add the
(sample provided) repo file in your yu,repo.d and yum insyall it.
It worked very well and it was adjusted not to interfere with the few
java packages that were in Fedora Core (those days).

It is a bit more difficult to avoid trampling the core Java packages
these days, that is where the Software Collections can help, have
these things _for_ Fedora install without interfering with the base
stuff that is _in_ Fedora (and perhaps even with some other _for_
Fedora things).

What I am trying to say (besides a pitch for add-on Fedora repos _elsewhere_),
is that Software Collections is for things _for_ Fedora not for
things _in_ Fedora.

Just my 2c.
