I'm not sure what you mean by that; "man poweroff" only shows the
error message.  I just noticed from the error message that I should
try "man halt" instead.  You're right that it's not related, though.

$ zcat /usr/share/man/man8/poweroff.8.gz
.so halt.8

That should be:

.so man8/halt.8
