<font color='black' size='2' face='arial'>There <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">are many instances in the forums, where, adding a cheat code to the kernel line in grub will solve a problem, but, if one doesn't have access to grub at boot-up, the solution is made more difficult. Even the act of booting to init 3 to make a diagnosis by looking at the logs requires a rescue disk when there is no access to the grub screen. Installations aren't always seamless, a timeout of 1 to 3 seconds makes the recovery easier.</span><br>

I was under the impression that a timeout is intentional/used only if another operating system is detected upon installation. ie. Windows. If no other operating system is detected, then there's no point having a timeout.<br>
