One that I didn't see in your list is join the Wiki, like this:
6) Get a wiki account
I. FirstnameLastname == accountable
II. Read these URLs: WikiEditing, WikiWorkflow ?, etc.
III. Make a userpage so that people can find you
IV. Request an alias?
