Maildir format in dovecot/KMail _does_ support subdirectories -
sorry if I gave the opposite impression.
eg (in my case) ~/Maildir/.Family.Brian ,
which KMail sees as Gayleard/Family/Brian
(Gayleard being the name of the KMail account).
