okular-4.12 not displaying png/jpg/gif

I did a minimal test... built okular-4.12.0 on top of kde-4.11.4 
environment... and it still worked.  So, I suspect the issue is at some 
lower level, perhaps kdelibs' kimgio plugins.

Can other apps like gwenview/konqueror display these files ok?
