here's a strange one... <BR>
while waiting for the reply, i logged in as root and created a new user to see if i could duplicate the same issue with just a terminal box in the bottom right corner. i restarted and that user worked perfectly, kde desktop came up smoothly. so i logged out and went back in as my original user and it worked perfectly as well. go figure. i know this isn't a fix but it appears to working fine.<BR>
