Right, well both of those look OK.

I suspect that you don't have any network access when you try the yum
check-update step as root, if this is the case then there is no way of
getting the updates.

Do you have the ability to plug in a network cable and use a wired
connection? If you do then I believe that you should be OK once the
3.4.x kernels are installed, and you repeat the installation of the
iwl2030 firmware from the updates-testing repository.
