Colleagues:

I call to your attention a book I have recently published which gives to-the-point career development advice to engineering academics: How to succeed with a smile! It is especially targeted on young to mid-career faculty and those considering an academic career. Insight is provided on how to time share quality teaching, research, service and mentoring with a happy personal life. Valuable tips are provided in efficiently writing successful proposals and dealing with both success and failure in the publication & proposal review process. Senior faculty will find fresh insights on how to optimize the quality of academic life. The advice I offer is drawn from lessons learned over my four decades on the faculties of the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and at Texas A&M, and in mentoring over 120 graduate students and 4 generations of PhD offspring.

See reviews at: Engineering Your Academic Career<http://www.lulu.com/browse/search.php?fListingClass=0&fSearch=john+junkins>. This short book would be a great five hour read for any professor, but your un-tenured and mid-career faculty might find it especially useful. Let me know what you think. There are several funny footnotes, including one that lampoons UT in a cute way that you might find entertaining.

Best regards,
John
