Mouse button stops working?

I've experienced this as well.  Both the physical laptop touchpad, and
USB attached mouse no longer honor left-click after some unspecified
amount of time.

I see nothing obvious in /var/log/{messages,Xorg.0.log,dmesg}.
Unplugging the USB mouse, and re-inserting did not change the result.
Logging out of the desktop and logging back in resolved the issue.

I'm still looking for some breadcrumb as to what might be causing the
failure.  I'm tail'ing $HOME/.xsession-errors (along with the log files
noted above for clues).
