 That does not match my experience. My desktop was running fine before the
 update in question was applied. Only after I ran an update did I reboot to
 find that GNOME failed to run, and I had to uninstall at-spi2-core to make
 it work again.

 I also think that the Alpha live image is built with at-spi2-core
 installed and works (and consequently will break when upgraded), but I'll
 need to double-check that.
