Systemd is responsible for dynamically starting/stopping services now.

I believe the display manager (GDM) is controlled by prefdm.service.

# systemctl status display-manager.service
prefdm.service - Display Manager
	  Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/prefdm.service)
	  Active: active (running) since Tue, 29 Mar 2011 08:47:27 -0400; 46min ago
	Main PID: 1425 (gdm-binary)
	  CGroup: name=systemd:/system/prefdm.service
		  ├ 1425 /usr/sbin/gdm-binary -nodaemon
		  ├ 1446 /usr/libexec/gdm-simple-slave --display-id /org/gnome/DisplayManager/Display1 --force-active-vt
		  ├ 1449 /usr/bin/Xorg :0 -background none -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-s46ZoW/database -nolisten tcp vt1
		  └ 1742 /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login

Thanks,
James
