'alacarte' crashes, and no apparent way to set Start-up apps, but yes, there is, and hidden (Gnome-session-properties)

I was trying to run 'alacarte' because it is said here
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=263528

That it' s the only way to configure (via a GUI) what programs are run at
system startup

To quote someone:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?p=1519489&postcount=9

"I'd kick those who made theese stupid changes in Gnome 3. Searching how to
add an app to startup I've lost hours of my life. In gnome 2 it was a
question of few seconds!"

Apparently it all comes down to this bug... that after ~8 months, hasn' t
been fixed
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734442

I then found by PURE CHANCE that "gnome-session-properties" includes a
"startup applications" listing.

So, Why-oh-why doesn't 'startup applications' appear in the list of apps
under "system tools" or in the "System settings" folder view, specifically
under "System" ?
Isn't a list of apps that run at startup a "system setting"?. And why hide
gnome-session-properties, for heaven' s sake?
