If it's falling back to i915 graphics before you do the switch, you
might be running into this regression, as have quite a few other
people (there are many other similar bugs).

At the moment, I'm finding graphics to be production unusable (OK for
testing). I either hit the above bug with i915 graphics, or I hit this
one when using Radeon:
