how does one enable/configure multiple sound sources simultaneously with ALSA on fedora?<BR>

i want to listen to xmms and hear other sounds, like mail notifications (either beeps or sound files)<BR>
or system beeps.<BR>

for that matter, where are system bells to be delivered? to the actual system bell<BR>
or to the sound card? is this configurable? I'd like to hear the bell on soundcard.<BR>
is the sound played for bell on soundcard configurable to different sounds?<BR>

Is there a mixer setting somewhere?<BR>
