Any chance of using existing solution like ngettext and associated plural forms?

FWIW, plural forms for Serbian (sr):

Plural-Forms: nplurals=3; \
              plural=n%10==1 && n%100!=11 ? 0 : \
                     n%10>=2 && n%10<=4 && (n%100<10 || n%100>=20) ? 1 : 2;


So

1 дан, 2 дана, 5 дана (same for 2-4 and 5-9 in this case)

or in Latin script (sr-Latn)

1 dan, 2 dana, 5 dana
