This will not work when you are booting off of the Live CD.  When the select screen comes up, you can press any key to stop the boot sequence and then for one of the selections type in linux text

I remember a select to start Linux in Text mode, but that may have been FC9/10, not FC 13/14.

That should startup the CD in text mode.
