Partitioning questions

Oops, I meant to say that I'm NOT interested in hardware RAID, but
instead want to use software RAID, of which I'm familiar.

This would be to have the ability to resize partitions more easily,
correct? Is there really any benefit to doing this on a system with a
fixed number of disks?
