Adblock Plus add-on for FireFox

Hi All,
Repeatedly now, for several months,
my adblock plus add-on is getting automagically
and without my doing, disabled!!!
I have had to re-install it several times.
I am wondering if this is being done by java scripts
being pushed by websites like google and yahoo
and possibly others?

I tried disabling java. And that resulted in most websited
becoming unbrowsable.

The sandbox lie is still in the minds of many.
java and javascripts are mucking with our files!

Is there an alternative implementation of java that
will prevent  java and javascript websites from touching
out files and directories?
