It's been a long time since I used that, but I think you need to modprobe
parport_pc (as root).
If you check in this directory:
/lib/modules/3.1.0-0.rc4.git0.0.fc16.x86_64/kernel/drivers/parport
you will see the various parport kernel modules available.
