The OP wanted to change his hosts file and couldn't as root without
using kdesu using a graphical editor.
I have been using Unix and Linux of various manufacturers for ovwer 20
years and have never heard of a Unix like system that has to have a
special su for its desktop manager. So it sounds screwy to me.
