Same problem with my desktop (search the the list for Dell XPS and you'll find it). The problem<br>is not in the hard disk most likely but in the BIOS. The way these system freezes were solved for me<br>is to add the 'noapic' command in the kernel argument at /boot/grub/grub.conf and boot again.
