</div>Your RAM seems to be OK (sure, the more you can install the better, but Linux<br>
will try to use it all, so do not misinterpret it if Mem used is close to Mem<br>
total at all times - that is actually a good sign of Mem utilization).<br>

exist.<br>
Stop that Java bloat application (kill Java if needed) and any others VIRT<br>
memory hogs; and CPU hogs as well.<br>
Verify Xorg workings (do you see any errors/warnings ?):<br>
$ less /var/log/Xorg.0.log<br>

Any funny settings on kernel boot line ?<br>

If all semms to be normal, and I would expect your GNOME fully functional even<br>
with your RAM, you can add the other apps (hogging Mem, perhaps causing swap<br>
activities) one by one to see the effects.<br>
