[Fedora-directory-users] Schema Format
by Kevin Peterson
When creating a custom schema file, whitespace appears to be
important. For example:
attributetypes: (1.3.6.1.4.1.2114.108.1.8.999.8
NAME ('inherent-3-D-shape-reverse')
SUP tsCaseIgnoreIA5String
SINGLE-VALUE)
attributetypes: (1.3.6.1.4.1.2114.108.1.8.999.9
NAME ('branch-continuity')
SUP tsCaseIgnoreIA5String
SINGLE-VALUE)
will not work, while
attributetypes: (1.3.6.1.4.1.2114.108.1.8.999.8 NAME
('inherent-3-D-shape-reverse') SUP tsCaseIgnoreIA5String SINGLE-VALUE)
attributetypes: (1.3.6.1.4.1.2114.108.1.8.999.9 NAME
('branch-continuity') SUP tsCaseIgnoreIA5String SINGLE-VALUE)
will work.
I did not see any mention of whitespace in RFC 2252 and I am wondering
1. Is this is expected behaviour, and 2. Is this documented anywhere,
because if it is perhaps there are more formatting rules that I am
missing.

Re: [Fedora-directory-users] Admin Console fails to start
by Steve Mahaffey
Nathan,
Like Mike Jackson I'm running FDS on a headless server. I'm pretty sure
that Gnome is fully installed on the server, tho I keep it at runlevel 3.
Initially last night I was accessing it via a system running Gnome (fairly
recent version -- Ubuntu distro) from home. Today I have tried 2
different systems at work running KDE. Same result.
X forwarding works from the server for all 3. I have no trouble opening
gui apps forwarded--xclock or some of the system-config... utilities.
Gedit also, to test a Gnome app just now. On at least one of the
workstations the "locale" output on the workstation appears identical to
that from the server if that makes any difference.

[Fedora-directory-users] Admin Console fails to start
by Mike Jackson
Hi,
I installed the fedora-ds-7.1-2.RHEL4.i386.opt.rpm RPM, configured the
server, and tried to start the administration console from the command line:
[root@vectra-4 fedora-ds]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant)
[root@vectra-4 fedora-ds]# uname -a
Linux vectra-4 2.6.9-5.EL #1 Wed Jan 5 19:22:18 EST 2005 i686 i686 i386
GNU/Linux
[root@vectra-4 fedora-ds]# ./startconsole
sh: -c: line 0: syntax error near unexpected token `('
sh: -c: line 0: `/opt/fedora-ds/bin/base/jre/bin/java -ms8m -mx64m -cp
.:./mcc70.jar:./mcc70_en.jar:./nmclf70.jar:./ldapjdk.jar:./jss3.jar:./base.jar:./nmclf70_en.jar
-Djava.library.path=/opt/fedora-ds/lib/jss
-Djava.util.prefs.systemRoot=/opt/fedora-ds/java/.java
-Djava.util.prefs.userRoot=/opt/fedora-ds/java
com.netscape.management.client.console.Console -A
http://vectra-4.(none):1500'
I didn't find a bug in bugzilla, but I was also not able to use bugzilla
to properly report this bug, since when I selected the Product Fedora
Directory Server, the page did not update the version and component
fields. Strangely enough, those fields are updated when searching for
existing bugs, but not when trying to report.

[Fedora-directory-users] Focus of this mailinglist?
by Patrick von der Hagen
Hi all,
I'm very, very to read about fedora (and Redhat) ldap server. It is just
great and I interpret it as a sign, that Redhat (and probably fedora)
are to support central identity-management (and hopefully
configuration-management) using LDAP. That's something I've been missing
for quite some time.....
However, personally I'm more interested in USING LDAP than in developing
a LDAP-server. Wouldn't dare to touch it's code. ;-)
So I'm someone to ask questions like "how can I make fedora to query
LDAP for printers which the given computer might use and push this
information to cups" or "can I store in LDAP that a certain group of
computers (running fedora-linux) should only allor lgoins from 8 a.m. to
8 p.m. but should deny login during the night" etc.
Asking such questions on openldap-mailinglists would not be desired....
Would such questions be on-topic here? Or where would my ideas and
questions be welcome? What's the intended focus of this mailinglist?

[Fedora-directory-users] Hello!
by Shawn Kennedy
OK, as what appears as the first person posting to this
list, I'm *very* interested in the multimaster support
since support for such a thing in OpenLDAP is extremely
experimental. I'm also looking for information on how
to configure and manage this software via a command line
or config file. The GUI that is supplied is not what
I need.
Thanks!

[Fedora-directory-users] quickstart?
by Neal Becker
I'd like to migrate my user authentication/home dir management to ldap, and
I'm hoping this project will help. I just want to migrate my current
standard fedora setup (shadow passwd). I don't have time to learn all about
arcance x.500, schema, etc. Is there a quickstart available?
