self introduction

Greetings everyone, I'm a mechatronics engineer from egypt , passionate about computer science, philosophy, video games and music. I have worked in a robotics , 3d printers, industrial automation and currently in the field service engineering. I've built two custom printers before and have a creality ender 3 v2, I thought of contributing to the community and enhance my skills at the same time I'm familier with the hardware and software parts including desigining on free cad and slicing with prusa slicer and even customise marlin firmware. I'm new to the world of contributing and this is my first time so I'd be really glad for any help and guidance.

Retiring slic3r, packaging SuperSlicer and/or OrcaSlicer?

Hello folks, during the Boost 1.90 rebuild in Fedora, we have discovered that Debian removed slic3r entirely, as it is upstream dead: https://github.com/slic3r/Slic3r/issues/5197#issuecomment-3745864053 I was considering: Should we do the same? Orphaned cloudcompare, pcl

Hello folks, flann was retired for not being picked by anybody in 6+ weeks [1], which made pcl Fails To Install [2] and probably Fails To Build From Source, thus transitively breaking cloudcompare (which is already FTBFS due to a vtk update [3]). It's time I acknowledge I do not have time for the cloudcompare package in Fedora: I orphaned both pcl and cloudcompare. I also plan to orphan any other packages I only maintained for cloudcompare (but I don't think there are any more). There are neglected updates for both [4][5] and potential future cmake problems in the cloudcompare package [6]. New packages needed to update cura

Hi friends, There are two new packages that need to be added to Fedora in order to update Cura: * asio-grpc - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2255630 * CuraEngine_grpc_definitions - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2255633 These should be very easy reviews, asio-grpc is a noarch header only package, and CuraEngine_grpc_definitions is just a lot of protobuf files that get compiled into a single library. Second, I removed the dependency on asm2, which I found used deprecated RPM macros such as %add_to_maven_depmap. Could someone take a look at that retired package and suggest how to modernize it towards the newer macros? The lulzbot-marlin-firmware does not build. The build fails with: /usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/12.2.0/../../../../arm-none-eabi/bin/ld: cannot find ../ArduinoAddons/arduino-1.8.5/packages/ultimachine/hardware/sam/1.6.9-b/variants/archim/libsam_sam3x8e_gcc_rel.a: No such file or directory Does anyone know where libsam_sam3x8e_gcc_rel.a is supposed to come from? Updating Cura to 5.2: help needed with CMake and their build system

Hello folks, I'd love to see Cura updated to 5.2 at least in Rawhide. However, it is a complex stack. Usually the following packages need to be updated (in this order): libsavitar libarcus libnest2d python-pynest2d python-uranium CuraEngine cura cura-fdm-materials However in Cura 5, the upstream CMake build system has been completely redesigned. Now the instructions are: https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/wiki/Running-Cura-from-Source E.g.: pip install conan --upgrade conan config install https://github.com/ultimaker/conan-config.git conan profile new default --detect --force I have never used conan to build Fedora packages. When I try to ignore it for a while and try to proceed with libarcus 5.2.2, I end up with: CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:4 (find_package): By not providing "Findstandardprojectsettings.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "standardprojectsettings", but CMake did not find one. Could not find a package configuration file provided by "standardprojectsettings" with any of the following names: standardprojectsettingsConfig.cmake standardprojectsettings-config.cmake Add the installation prefix of "standardprojectsettings" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set "standardprojectsettings_DIR" to a directory containing one of the above files. If "standardprojectsettings" provides a separate development package or SDK, be sure it has been installed. Where do I look for this Findstandardprojectsettings.cmake? prusa-slicer 2.5.0

Hi folks, I've done some work on getting prusa-slicer 2.5.0 into Fedora, and the good news is that I have a set of package builds in a copr against rawhide that seem to work: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/spot/prusa-slicer-2.5.0/ There are some caveats: * Some of the prusa-slicer tests are segfaulting. I just disabled the tests for this build, but I know that is not ideal. At least one other upstream (nix) which has builds of 2.5.0 has simply disabled all of the libslic3r tests. * I had to update tbb and opencascade * openvdb is in the copr too, but there are no changes, it was just rebuilt for new deps https://spot.fedorapeople.org/prusa-2.5.0/ has the SRPMs and SPECs. Given how intrusive this is, I would appreciate other eyes reviewing this work. Thanks, ~spot

Hello! I am an aspiring researcher, scientist and engineer and contribute to open source software. I absolutely cherish exploring technology through the world of STEAM through interdisciplinary viewpoints. I am interested in the economy and technology and how we can make sure to propagate its positive effects. I enjoy reading, hacking software together among other things. My primary interests are in the domains of software engineering and machine learning. In particular, I am interested in finding data-driven solutions to global problems. I daily drive Fedora Silverblue on the desktop. For non-software development, I use Kdenlive. For version control, I have my own git server and I use GitHub and GitLab as well. I mostly work with Python, Docker, VSCode, Swift, Bash scripting, C and C++ If I had to use three words to describe me they would be: resourceful, passionate and resilient. I am incredibly passionate about contributing to open-source software and working on projects that work towards solving a problem. Along with this, I am working on a few projects that I will be delighted to share soon! I have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and have conducted research in diverse topics including astronomy and history, cybersec, biotechnology, genomics, and fires over the past three years. I'd love to help out with Fedora, especially with respect to making it a great platform for 3D printing, and request to get sponsored.
