[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Event: Strasbourg (date partly finalised)
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hai there,
I have good news and maybe bad news.
Its Still fresh.
First as long awaited here in Strasbourg, France there will be an
"open source" day http://strasbourg.linuxfr.org/jl4/index on the 23-25
June 2006. This event will be intended as I mentioned in
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents to promote open source
softwares and linux.
If somebody is motivated to make a conference about fedora, do inform
me. Hence you will become the guest of our lug. We ( the lug members )
are looking forward to invite lecturers and to pay their journey and
hotel too. This needs to be confirmed. The money required to host the
lecturers will be from either paid entrance or companies paying for
the booth.
to rent a booth for fedora, we have to pay. Price will be communicated
later. There are also talks about free booth for associations. But
nothing yet confirmed.
Its possible to sell Fedora t-shirts or other goodies for fund
raising. But in this case, we must rent a booth for Fedora.
Now comes the "maybe" bad news:
this scheduled date for the event interfere badly with two of MY
private life things:
1. I have already booked two tickets (my gf and I) to Mauritius.
2. my contract with the hostel ends in the beginning of June and
somebody will be occupying my actual room.
so meanwhile send your comments, queries or any other proposals :)
regards,
Chitlesh GOORAH

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Red Hat Magazine article on Fedora Ambassadors
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
If you arent reading Red Hat Magazine on a monthly basis or even reread
it daily you should. It has tons of interesting articles and many of
them are about Fedora. This month has a article on Fedora Ambassadors by
Greg Dek http://www.redhat.com/magazine/014dec05/features/ambassadors/
with special appearances from our very own Thomas Chung, Behdad
Esfahbod, Chitlesh Goorah and Jack Aboutboul. Of course anybody who
contributes to Fedora has their names embedded on the history of people
who changed the world anyway and by the way, here is a red carpet
welcome to any new Fedora Ambassadors who keep signing up on a regular
basis. Invite your friends, family, relatives and perhaps more importantly
your pets. Keep them coming I say...
Here is my favorite part for now
""There is this one particular sushi bar in San Francisco which is
visited by a number of Fedora contributors every time they are on the
West Coast. On our last trip there, we realized that the music system in
the sushi bar was running Fedora. So it turns out the great atmosphere
in the place was due in part to us. On that particular night, the sushi
tasted a little bit sweeter!""

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] meeting notes fedora ambassadors Dec 29, 22:00 UTC
by Alex
Next meeting:
Location: irc.freenode.net, channel #fedora-mktg
Time: January 5, 2006, 14:00 UTC
Today's meeting (listing active participants only):
Attending: ChitleshGoorah, rwhetsel, nman64, GeroldKa, mether
Discussed:
1
Steering committee members confirmed:
* Patrick Barnes (nman64)
* Thomas Chung (tchung)
* Greg DeKoenigsberg (gregdek)
* Alex Maier (Chair pro tem) (lxmaier)
* Rahul Sundaram (mether)
* Robert Whetsel (rwhetsel)
We are still one or two (depending whether Greg can be an active
member) members short, so if anyone hears the call of duty, please
step up.
For the first week or so Alex will continue to lead this group after
which the Committee will either confirm her as permanent Chair or have
one of the members step up himself.
The SC is there mostly to decide on priorities, such as what event to
spend the money on, and to make sure we set the goals for the group
and decide on the guidelines if necessary.
2
More ambassadors should be contributing to the
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/PressArchive
3
Jan 31 - Feb 2, 2006 Solutions Linux 2006 Paris, France
we seem to have missed the deadline to secure a spot for fedora, so
aurelien will be representing us on the local LUG booth. it is
suboptimal but better than nothing.
Chitlesh Goorah estimates he will need EUR 160 to be able to attend
Solutions Linux. SC will decide whether we can give Chitlesh money and
if yes, how much?
4
Feb 8-10, 2006 LinuxAsia 2006 New Delhi India
Rahul has provided a draft presentation under:
http://people.redhat.com/sundaram/Fedora.sxi
Please everyone take a look and give constructive feedback and/or
learn from Rahul (mether)
if we can get shwag flyers cd/dvds etc that would be nice. Sankarshan
Mukhopadhyay (sm|CPU) needs to talk about that, since he said he might
be able to arrange it himself
ChitleshGoorah: if these flyers can be posted online it would be
useful to me during the install parties
5
Mar 29 - Apr 2, 2006 Minibit Loerrach Loerach, Germany
GeroldKa has got the booth for his LUG
6 x 2 sqm (20x10 square ft)
Would be cool to have some schwag and maybe a flag or a banner for the
show. It all depends on the fulfillment for Fedora.
7
Alex will re-confirm fedora budget with Red Hat and submit it to the
SC and later, once SC goes over it and approves, we'll post it to the
list.
8
as both gregdek__ and lxmaier have day jobs, we cannot guarantee
timely delivery before we have a working fulfillment system. We were
hoping we would have a working automated fulfillment system for
ambassadors sooner... but it is not as easy as we all hoped.
We are considering two fulfillment companies who can produce DVDs,
CDs, t-shirts, pens, and anything else that can be manufactured, on
demand for us.
9
email(a)fedoraproject.org
it seems to be easy to do, but someone has to do it... and in all
likelihood it will be sopwith :)
That's largely waiting on a Fedora Infrastructure project to be
completed. Elliot I guess hasn't returned from the holidays yet.
10
We have seen a lot of new recruits in the ambassadors team lately. We
should encourage them to show up at the meetings.
Please see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/HowTo for minimal
requirements.
All newbies, please be sure that if you are not active during your
probation of 30 days, your status will remain "inactive" after this
time, and no schwag will be sent to you until you begin to contribute
actively to meetings, discussions, and wiki.
One good place to contribute is
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/PressArchive in your local
language. We need more articles on this page, and I know they are out
there!
11
Alex has also pinged a few remaining folks without wiki pages to build
them. We need to make sure all ambassadors are easily reachable by
public, and a wiki page is essencial for this.
12
A note for the new ones in the meeting, the meeting times alterate
each week, by 8 hours--to accommodate ambassadors in all the regions
So the next meeting will be at 14:00 UTC, on thu, Jan 5
14 UTC = 9am Eastern = 15 CET

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Argentina and its culture
by Juan Lentino
Hey people...
As Sankarshan Mukhopadhyay said "thanks for the poking"...
I'm gonna talk about Argentina and its culture about Free and Commercial
software.
There are some people that have prejudice about free software. These people
rather than buying the Commercial one, buy a pirate version of it.
So, what's the deal with them? You can be shutted down if you get caught
using illegal versions of Commercial software. That's why I'm a person that
rely on something that people worked on and know that free software can be
even more stable than Commercial one.
Perhaps, the people down here expect too much or not but they think that
having Commercial software legally or not (this is tricky, lol).
Anyway... I'm very happy with FC4 and I'll try FC5 when the final release
come out. Of course, it's a superb OS. I'm advising to people to download
the ISOs or I'm delivering CDs to a small group of friends and stuff.
And, of course, I'm trying to change the people that says free software is
bad and you can't rely on. I already told them that free doesn't mean bad.
Well... You can't change people but I'm trying. :)
I'm gonna write more often, I promise. ;)

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] meeting notes fedora ambassadors Dec 22, 14:00 UTC
by Alex
Next meeting is Dec 29, 22:00 UTC
Present:
mjbrej, nman64, abompard, barz, thl, gja, gregdek, roozbeh, hornain, lxmaier
Discussed:
1. Events
2. Ambassadors Steering Committee
Events
------
Jan 31 - Feb 2, 2006
Solutions Linux 2006
abombard is in charge, we most likely have missed the deadline.
lxmaier will check with the organizers for a slot in the .org village,
but we are not too hopeful.
if all else fais, we will be on the local lug booth
Feb 25-26, 2006
FOSDEM
hornain has everything under control. will report to the list.
Mar 28-30, 2006
LWCE Australia
barz will find a volunteer or two to jump in and represent Fedora at this show.
General Events Stuff
1. we all need to remember that two months befre a show is already too
late to participate in most shows.
2. If transportation/accommodation expenses prevent Ambassadors from
going to an event, Fedora will try to help with what little money we
got. Do not expect to have all expenses covered, but we will try our
best not to let you go bancrupt over an event :)
Ambassadors Steering Committee
As the Ambassadors' numbers grow, we need a few (very likely 7) people
to step up and help lead the group--and we will call them "Steering
Committee."
The Committee will decide on things such as which events receive
higher priority (in case of limited funds and materials available),
will help set the guidelines for Ambassadors, will take care of
meeting preparation, agenda, an protocol, and stuff like that. In
general, SC will be the organ which will help us all function better
and let us have a backup for Alex :)
The members of the committee do not need to be affilliated with Red
Hat or any other Fedora project. They need to be experienced enough to
know what Fedora is and does, and what Ambassadors are supposed to be
doing.
Ambassadors program is a meritocracy, so the ones who have shown that
they are actively doing the right thing will be best candidates.
Everybody please think whether you have the time and resources
necessary to be a member of the SC, and if you do, step up!
If you wish to be on the committee, or if you wish to propose someone
else, write a message to the list. We will be selecting committee
members during the next meeting.
