[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Event: Strasbourg (date partly finalised)
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hai there,
I have good news and maybe bad news.
Its Still fresh.
First as long awaited here in Strasbourg, France there will be an
"open source" day http://strasbourg.linuxfr.org/jl4/index on the 23-25
June 2006. This event will be intended as I mentioned in
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents to promote open source
softwares and linux.
If somebody is motivated to make a conference about fedora, do inform
me. Hence you will become the guest of our lug. We ( the lug members )
are looking forward to invite lecturers and to pay their journey and
hotel too. This needs to be confirmed. The money required to host the
lecturers will be from either paid entrance or companies paying for
the booth.
to rent a booth for fedora, we have to pay. Price will be communicated
later. There are also talks about free booth for associations. But
nothing yet confirmed.
Its possible to sell Fedora t-shirts or other goodies for fund
raising. But in this case, we must rent a booth for Fedora.
Now comes the "maybe" bad news:
this scheduled date for the event interfere badly with two of MY
private life things:
1. I have already booked two tickets (my gf and I) to Mauritius.
2. my contract with the hostel ends in the beginning of June and
somebody will be occupying my actual room.
so meanwhile send your comments, queries or any other proposals :)
regards,
Chitlesh GOORAH

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Idea: Fedora in Library
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello everyone,
I think im going to write a lot lol.
Ok an Ubuntu marketing agent told me about their idea of having Ubuntu
in Libraries.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuInLibraries
No, its not about installing Ubuntu in the computers but to lend Open
source cds to their subscribed users. Actually they copied it from
Openoffice.
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/11838/Open%20So...
Personally its a wonderful idea because having CDS in libraries will
affect the complete newbies mind set of fear towards linux.
Considering the fact that librairies is a body of trust.
This is mostly an activity done by the lug. Of course if we
ambassadors provide enough materials/translation to.
Im eager to do it right away in Strasbourg. But comparing to another
distros like ubuntu, suse, etc they already have enough materials in
their pocket. Example, live cds. I prefer to wait for Fedora to catch
up with materials.
Let's take for example, Fedora. If a lug happens to realise this
project. Among other distros we will only have handouts and Fedora
DVDs. Meanwhile students or anyone will prefer to give a try to live
cds, leaving Fedora behind. Saying that this particular live distro is
based on Fedora isn't enough for the complete newbies. It would rather
be useless. If someone tried the "official" fedora LIVE cd if he/she
likes it he/she can easily get the install DVD for free for their
local lug or lug ambassador or from the library directly.
Some testimonials:
http://ask.slashdot.org/askslashdot/04/04/16/1923248.shtml?tid=137&tid=18...
http://slashdot.org/articles/03/12/15/193231.shtml?tid=146&tid=149&tid=99
Since in the last 3 meetings (see
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Schedule ) we didn't really
progress in Emails, funds, Schwag because we are waiting for
additional info. I suggest we talk and plan about this idea. I know
ambassadors from India or Brazil will have alot to say :))
I know we (majority)ambassadors we only popped in during meetings
hours, talk and talk. This sounds like acting. Its time to move A55 :)
for REAL action.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] suggestions for an ambassador newbie.
by Michael J. Knox
Hi everyone.
I have been kind of idle, reading all the emails and taking in what
others are doing/suggesting.
I would like to ask for some advice.
I live in New Zealand, in a town called Hamilton (or the Waikato). In
general, New Zealand has very few trade shows or events that one would
normally have a stall at etc.
I do have a local LUG which I am a member of, however, I doubt they
would appreciate a Fedora talk every month (considering the huge number
of debian dev's that reside in the LUG).
So, my question is, what can someone, in a small area, with little IT
related shows/events etc do as an ambassador?
At the moment, I try to post to the LUG's mailing list when Fedora
related news is made, things like Fedora reloaded podcasts etc etc.
I am all ears and keen for suggestions.
Thanks!
Michael

Hi,
I think that we will have a number of Fedora newbies (or newbies to
Fedora) at LinuxAsia 2006.
Is there a handout/flyer ready that sort of talks of the following:
o What is Fedora
o What are the projects within Fedora
o Where to get Fedora
o Where to get in touch
o Mailing Lists (relevant ones aimed at newbies)
o IRC channels
o Found a Bug ? Why don't you tell us about it...
o Want to get involved ? Just here's how...
Regards
Sankarshan

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Schwag plan currently
by Greg DeKoenigsberg
As of right now, here's the simplified plan:
We're working to get ambassador kits produced in 3 geos: North America,
Europe, and Asia. The kits will contain:
* A few shirts. Probably four shirts -- 1 M, 2 L, 1 XL.
* A few caps.
* Pens and stickers.
No poster, because we didn't have time to design a good one. In the first
go-round, all of the graphics will be *very* simple -- probably just the
logo and/or wordmark. Why? Because we don't have much time, and
coordinating translation and the like will take too long for this
go-round.
We're still on track to be able to take kit requests by March 15th.
Note: this is INDEPENDENT of the DVD production plan, which we're still
working on.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Funding for LinuxAsia2006 / FUDCon Delhi 2006
by Tejas Dinkar
Dear *,
I had earlier thought that I would not be able to attend LinuxAsia /
FUDCon Delhi 2006 due to examinations. However, due to recent events, I
will be able to attend LinuxAsia on the 9th and 10th of February.
The event is scheduled for the 8th, 9th, and 10th of February, with
FUDCon scheduled on the 9th. I will be able to fly out from Bangalore on
the Afternoon of the 8th, and attend FUDCon, as well as the final day.
I would like to help out at the Fedora Stall wherever possible, as well
as attend the various talks at the FUDCon.
I do not need funding for my stay, as I can stay with a relative in
Delhi. However, I would like to request for sponsorship for the travel
expenses.
The flight to Delhi and back should cost roughly $200. I will be able to
pay this amount now, but I would request for a reimbursement of the same
amount after the event. I would be able to provide a copy of the flight
tickets / receipt to a member of the Steering Committee if required.
As this event if fairly close, I would request you to please reply
quickly.
Thank You
Tejas Dinkar

Upcoming Events
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents
Solutions Linux (Paris, abompard)
abompard received stuff for Soultions Linux
it was still in one piece, but not far from torn apart
abompard will be able to attend 2 days out of 3
abompard is translating Fred's slides to french right now
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Slides
GNUify (Pune, mether)
the original slides - about 50 or so are in: http://people.redhat.com/sundaram/
mether is cutting down and reorganising them based on a new idea
otherwise nothing else to report on
FUDCon @ LinuxAsia (New Delhi, mether)
Planning for this is going well; schedule is almost finished; schwag
is delivered; we're just about ready to go.
mether is rewriting the slides and will upload it when its done to the
common pool
all the arrangements are mostly done by now
SCALE 4x (tchung)
tchung received 70 t-shirts and 150 DVDs.
planning to burn 50 more DVDs himself.
tchung will take a lot of pictures at the event to record it and
report about it.
tchung is not sure about a blog but there will be plenty of pictures
and a special coverage in FWN. :)
quaid tchung: sorry I'm not going to make it SCALE, I'm cutting back
on travel it seems
Banners:
tchung ok. I suppose I could cook something up in local stationey store. :)
JoseTarazona Banner for shows (I'm working on two events for
Universities, dates still pending.) and one for a website for my
country
gregdek lxmaier: I'm starting to think it makes more sense to
manufacture centrally and ship.
lxmaier i could supervise the manufacturing in Germany and/or UK
lxmaier and we could have [sasquatch] ship them out to other locations
within europe
gregdek will have an update on schwag coming up this week, which will
include banners etc.
FOSDEM (Fred)
gregdek OK, no Fred. We'll discuss FOSDEM later
barz lwce in sydney is targeting businesses and .org booths are way 2
expensive. we decided dropping this one, not suitable 4 FC's audience
or budget.
It will be removed from the wiki
ChitleshGoorah has secured a booth for Fedora for the Strasbourg
event. He posted it lately on the M.list
ChitleshGoorah Sure if someone is interested can join me
ChitleshGoorah If not Ill be with my gf and maybe a fedora user too
ChitleshGoorah our lug is looking for hotels which can provide us
cheap prices for the event :)
JoseTarazona I'm interested, count with me
monkey|wrk I might be able to attend the linuxworldexpo in Sydney
barz they do have .org, but same prices
LWCE Sydney will be removed from events list
richard Tuttle has added OSCON to the event list, which is
outstanding. We will need an update from him.
nman64 Unfortunately, we can't provide a bunch of money for everyone
to get to every event (we'd love to if we could), so we have to
consider each event and decide where the money should go. The same
budget is also used for producing merchandise. The Steering Committee
is working on policies and procedures to get everything moving
smoothly. If ever you have an event near you that you would like to
try to get to, come up with a budget and let us know what you need.
We'll do the best we can.
Part of being an ambassador is acting as the regional contact for the
team. We can add links to the ambassador pages from that page. If a
local user wants us to attend or wants our support, they should
contact their local Ambassador.
maikaru ok... those events in stockholm are the expensive ones and
those in gothenburg are the not so expensive... i know ppl there that
i can sleep at if needed... i plan to contact the biggest
computermagazine in sweden so swedish ppl will know about me soon ;)
Fedora Libraries (Chitlesh)
launched FedoraLibraries in the list. ambassadors need to move ASAP
for this project. the discussion to continue on the list.
FUDCon / LinuxTag at Wiesbaden.
lxmaier and gregdek had a conversation with Florian Brand from RH
Germany today. GeroldKa and Florian will be co-owners.
Schwag pipeline.
gregdek We've got a plan that I'll be publicising to ambassadors-list
later today. Goal: to have the schwag pipeline up, funded and working
by March 15th. Right now, we've got a lot of requests, but not a lot
of resources. Yet. But "help is on the way".
BUT: we will NOT be sending single T-shirts or anything like that. We
will be sending KITS to ambassadors. Too expensive to drop-ship single
Ts and hats and such.
Kits, as of right now, will consist of:
* Hats;
* Pens;
* Stickers;
* Posters.
However many we can fit into about $100 worth of stuff.
Note: this does NOT include t-shirts. Why?
Because T-shirts are:
* expensive for what you get;
* always in the wrong size;
* bulkier to ship.
Note: there WILL be a place to ORDER shirts, but they will NOT be part
of the kits.
nman64 In the future, we should be able to work with a service like
CafePress or Spreadshirt to offer T-shirts and other merchandise as a
fundraising tool, but not yet.
BUSINESS CARDS
We have four proposed designs.
Let's pick the best one or two and move!
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/BusinessCards
you'll need Avery stock# 8871
it's official policy: Use tchung's template at http://fedoranews.org/tchung/biz
please read readme.txt
FrancescoUgolini I have only to say that i'm working on the fedora
installation guide in italian, i've done the beginning and the first
chapter, and i think in a week or two i've finished to traduce. So see
ya the next week and good night

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Description for Linuxtag Germany
by Gerold
Team,
Thorsten Lemhuis (thl) helps me a lot of preparing the German Linuxtag.
He creates the following descriptions in German and english.
Can please anybody review these words?! We have to fullfinish our login
till next week!
short description Englisch:
Develops together with Red Hat the Linux-Distribution Fedora Core and
the LDAP-Server Fedora Directory Server plus packages a lot of software
suitable for Fedora Core in the community project Fedora Extras.
Description Englisch:
The Fedora Project was started as a development project by Red Hat
around the Linux. Its goal is to create a complete and general-to-use
Operating-System that is based only on Open-Source-Software.
The most wide know part of the Project is the quite well known and often
used Linux distribution Fedora Core, that uses Open-Source Software
only. Its developers closely work together with the programmers that
create the software and often include the latest versions of these
applications in the distribution. Fedora Core publishes about two
versions a year and round about every third one is used as a base for
Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Besides Fedora Core there are several related sub-projects: The
community-driven Fedora Extras for example packages additional Software
for Fedora Core in RPM-Pages that can easily be installed from the
Distribution. Fedora Legacy provides security-updates for older releases
of Fedora Core. The Project Fedora Directory Server is driven by both
the community and Red Hat to further enhance the sourcecode from the
Netscape LDAP-Server, that Red Hat bought and published as Open-Source
last year.
Kurzbeschreibung Deutsch:
Beschreibung Deutsch:
interessierten Anwendern gepflegte Fedora Legacy stellt
Sicherheitsupdates für ältere Fedora-Versionen bereit. Beim Fedora
Directory Server entwickelt Red Hat zusammen mit der
Open-Source-Community an der Weiterentwicklung des von Netscape
übernommenen und unter eine Open-Source-Lizenz gestellten LDAP-Servers.
