New FAMSCO Vice-Chair

It is with great pleasure that I would like to congratulate Alex Maier
on her appointment as the vice-chair of FAMSCO.
Alex,
- is the Founder of the Ambassadors program, helped form and grow the
numbers of contributors since October 2005
- Helped form the first Ambassadors Steering Committee and establish
first rules and procedures for it
- Drove the formation of FAmSCo Task Groups and served on the Budget
Task Group, putting in place the reimbursement guidelines for
Ambassadors
- Organized and ran two FUDCons in Europe: Karlsruhe 2005 and London 2005
- Wrote FUDCon Organization guidelines
- Member of Fedora Mentors program
As a Chair of FAMSCO, I'll continue to work with Alex to learn from
her experience as well as other great leaders in this project.

If you can afford to spend a few dollars on a copy, please check out
the vendors in your region:

If you prefer to request a free copy, then you will have to direct
your request to the Free Media project, a group of volunteers who sed
out installation DVDs and CDs on their own time and money. Because of
this, wait times can be a bit long.

fc6 - install problems

Hi guys,
Last night I did a clean install of FC6
I need to know where I report this serious error.
Media test OK
It went through the installation OK.
The pre set up seemed right
But when the pre setup finished it failed to start the xserver
I restarted my computer still no xserver
I then deleted the x11.conf file (bscked up of course)
restarted my computer.
Xserver started running.
As I have some experance now i could figure out what needed to be done
- but for most novices if that happened to them they whould discard
linux as rubbish - no joke! If if does not work straight out the box
most people do not have the time.
As long as it installs I would be happy - some drivers missing OK. But
no gui. Thats something that will really turn people off.
I am a great fedora/ linux fan, and want to strive to help to get
fedora out!!!
So ...
2 things
1. who needs to see this report - this is the major one there are
other issues that make FC6 unusable out of the box
2. Freemedia - should freemedia be using this realease with the
current problem.
PC Specs:
Toshiba M30 (laptop) - C1.73 1gb ram Nvidia 5200 graphics card

Well, being part of the fedora ambassadors team for a long time, and
Ill certainly continue to contribute to the project, I have some
requests for famsco and other ambassadors:
(Im not writing this to flame war what so ever, which is not my intention)
It would be nice if:
A. approved shipment for goods(dvds/schwags) be shipped. And If for
some reason, we (fedoraproject) can't ship then:
1. inform the appropriate ambassador and tell him/the list the reason
2. help/reply to another ambassador who is trying to provide
support/assistance
Then, the ambassador(s) won't be embarrassed on the ground, like simon said.
B. give appropriate gifts to ambassadors who are awarded. I don't mean
expensive here, but at least things "a special fedora t-shirt", " a
fedora pin",.. which the fedora ambassador can wear on the booth. The
first ambassador award, the coffee mug is indeed a great gift.
C. goodies requests have been rejected, the appropriate ambassador
should be notified.
some requests for ambassadors:
D. ambassadors from time to time pop in ambassador's meeting. I know
not everyone have time to be present for ALL the meetings. there are
more than 130 ambassadors, the last meeting I attended, there was
scarcely more than 10 ambassadors. This is a request to all
ambassadors to at least do their maximum to attend and participate. We
all want to hear from you and what you can provide to the fedora
project.
E: Fedora Ambassador is a community based project, and it was designed
to be like this a community based project. Fedora Core 6 was released
a few days ago, I'll invite every ambassadors even those from famsco
to have a small presentation on your respective lug meeting.

And also do tell us how it was.
F: Bring feedback to the team from the ground. And fortify your local
fedora ambassador's team. Some good examples: France/Belgium, Brazil
and India. Germany got some wonderful ambassadors, those you can count
on. And there are lots among us.
