[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Introduction thread.

Ought to post something, then. I'm known as cds on irc, I mainly do work on the fedora websites and support in #fedora, I've joined as an ambassador just in case I'm actually able to do anything, but being a student (and a poor one at that) I cannot travel far. [Fedora-ambassadors-list] suggestions for an ambassador newbie.

Hi everyone. I have been kind of idle, reading all the emails and taking in what others are doing/suggesting. I would like to ask for some advice. I live in New Zealand, in a town called Hamilton (or the Waikato). In general, New Zealand has very few trade shows or events that one would normally have a stall at etc. I do have a local LUG which I am a member of, however, I doubt they would appreciate a Fedora talk every month (considering the huge number of debian dev's that reside in the LUG). So, my question is, what can someone, in a small area, with little IT related shows/events etc do as an ambassador? At the moment, I try to post to the LUG's mailing list when Fedora related news is made, things like Fedora reloaded podcasts etc etc. I am all ears and keen for suggestions. Thanks! Michael

Hi all, what do you think about our businesscards? Do you like them??? I like them much; so much that I have created my own ... BUT, today I've looked again for the debian businesscards of a friend of mine which is enclosed ... And; blame on me, but I think we have an bad clone of them, haven't we??? Only with another Logo ... Please help me ... ... I belive and think we need another design, needn't we?! Thanks for your reply and suggestion and please be aware; I like mine but I feel a little bit as a thief ... Regards Gerold

Dear Sankarshan, Thankyou for your advice. It's with prior consent of the Department of Computer Sciene & Engg, and its faculties members, we have installed linux (fedora, redhat & ubuntu) in our computer lab, as well as library. The whole department is in support of us. Moreover, we also organise short sessions for introducing fedora and redhat to the students. We have kept different distros of linux to let students experience the differece, benefits and demerits of the different distros. Hence creating a compartive evaluation system just to judge Fedora. We still have some of the windows machines, and it is pleasing to see conscious students especially 3rd and 4th year students seldom use windows machines, and when asked, they appreciated the freedom in programming pradigm they found on linux system while working with their projects. And that's all to let us keep working. Moreover, I look forward for your suggestions in coming time as well. Thank you Regards Abhishek Singh

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] About Fedora Promotion in Universities/Schools

Dear All, Sorry for being inactive for a long time; it was because I was having my semester examinations. About promoting Fedora in Nepal, I thought of universities and schools as the starters and ideal implementation centres. Hence I planned to first implement in my own university(Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, Nepal); as a result of which we are running Fedora Core and Red Hat on our computer laboratory at the university. Moreover, we have already organized training sessions to facililate Windows users to work on Fedora so as to promote "Migration to Linux". In the same way, I'm planning to propose other universities and colleges of the nation to adopt Fedora, and organize necessary events (may be training sessions, Seminars, Demonstration Classes etc). I also like the idea of availing Fedora at the library. That will really help students move towards Fedora (Live CDs + User Guide could be a good option). I'm seeking for opinions and suggestions of promoting Fedora in a country like Nepal (Maybe some of the Indian Ambassadors could help me, as Nepal being their neighbour). Thankyou. **Please pass this around to anyone who might find this relevant** FUDCon Boston 2006 Call For Papers I would like to start out by thanking both the community and developers who have helped make Fedora such a huge success on so many different fronts. Riding on the success of the series of FUDCon events worldwide I am proud to announce that we will be holding FUDCon Boston 2006, taking it back to where it all began. The event will be graciously hosted by Boston University once again with sponsorship from BU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the BU Office of Information Technology, and this year, the BU School of Management. The date for the event is Friday April 7th, the day following the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo. We are looking for interesting topics and presentations covering a number areas. Talks should be focused on one of the 3 main tracks. Track 1 - User Track : Topics that deal with the user experience, desktop innovations, etc. Track 2 - Developer Track : Topics that deal with software development in the Fedora environment. Track 3 - Application Track : Either topics that deal with applications/uses of Fedora in other Open Source projects or topics that showcase a specific Open Source application. To be considered for presentation, abstracts should be submitted fudcon-cfp(a)fedoraproject.org by no later than Thursday February 23, at 11:59pm. We welcome submission from both developers and community members alike, new and old. After the review process, notifications will go out on Thursday March 2nd followed by a full schedule for FUDCon Boston 2006 and official announcement on Monday March 6th. Thanks.

All, There's a magazine called GCN (Government Computer News) in the US, and they're trying to do a nice article on Fedora Core 5's upcoming desktop -- and how much more usable it is than it's ever been. The author has written the article already basically, and it's quite favorable -- but she needs good screenshots. So I need your help! I think we need a screenshot that shows off: * An evolution window * A firefox window * Some notes on the screen with tomboy * Enough of the background showing so you can tell it's FC5 Maybe this is actually multiple screenshots, but this is the general idea. We can also use these for fp.o, if we don't have them there already. Following an IRC discussion with Rahul, last month, we came up with the idea of designing a template before the Fedora Core 5 Release. I did it now, at least a draft . Dear Rahul, Alex, Greg and All, Unfortunately I won't be able to assist to the meeting today due work stuff. I just want to ask if there is someone who wants to give a videoconference in this event. This is mainly for University students. Also if there is someone who wants to know this beautiful country I can give assistance (including transportation and a warm place to stay: my home).
