[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Teaching.... teachers!
by Kirill "REDbyte" Novikov
Hi! I haven't been in the list for a long time - so I'm sorry if someone
already asked question like that. So this year I'm graduating from high
school, but I still can't encourige my teachers and school administration to
make a desicion about moving from pirated version of Win98 to Fedora. I
tried hard, but they afraid that they should learn new OS and change all
their tests and control works for students. They even don't want to try
installing it. What should I do?

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Right on Brother, Right on.
by Pat McKelvey
David:
I just saw your comments about ambassadorship in the newsletter. I
agree completely. I have said so at the last ambassador's meeting on
the 16 and was loudly ignored. There may be too many competing agendas
in this situation.
I see being an ambassador as being the personal face on Linux (fedora or
other). I do not feel like I want to be the unpaid sales staff of any
of the various companies that have paid staff. Let the paid staff go to
the Big Conferences and Man or Woman the Booths. That kind of thing
gets old quick. I'll work, one on one, with the local users group. I'm
trying to find a way to smuggle Linux into the Cincinnati School System,
which is all Windows now. I'm working on the Cincinnati Computer Coop
which rebuilds computers for schools and non-profit organizations. I
may end up creating a intro to Linux course for them. I have made up
the contents of three college courses, at the same time as teaching
them. Doing one course should be easy, just so long as it doesn't get
into the policy part of SELinux.
I agree with your voice of sanity. Your ideas are sound and let's see
if we can't stir up some more support for the one-on-one approach. I
won't "dis", as my daughter says, anyone using another distro.
Being a licensed Professional Engineer, having personally designed and
made an integrated circuit as my senior EE project, having taught
College for 3 years, been on the ANSI 70B committee (National Electrical
Code - Maintenance) for 2 years, being a Lapsed MCNE, and having 2 pages
of computer courses on my resume, I can give expert testimony in a Court
downtown, but I can't get heard over the noise about "getting schwag".
I want to get back to helping people learn about Linux and all the neat
things that can be done on it. How much opportunity this open operating
system offers, someone who is curious, the chance to learn and grow. I
believe that the world needs more people who want to tinker and learn.
I want to be in on that excitement and growing. I want to pass along
what I have learned in 20 years in computers to those who are interested.
As I believe I said at the Ambassador's meeting, my drawer is full
enough of T-shirts. Perhaps being of Irish extraction, my temper gets
the better of me. I probably need to go and have a last green beer left
over from St. Patrick's Day (I'm Buddhist).

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Guest Star
by Kirill "REDbyte" Novikov
Hi everyone! Some news about Uzbek Linux Users Community. First of all we've
finally finished our website - linuxcenter.uz. And It's time to make another
Linux party for all our big community. Last party I've advertised FC4 a lot
- most of young linuxoids have installed FC on ther desktops. Maybe it's
time for Fedora Linux Forum in Tashkent. So I want to ask - could someone
from Red Hat or Fedora come and read presentation or lection and take part
in our holliday of all pinguins. So in fact we could organize everything -
we need only a "Guest Star" to make Forum or Party more interesting.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] meeting today
by Gerold
All,
sorry; I cann't attend the meeting today at 14 UTC because I'm on a
training the whole week (also today) and I have no access neither to
Intrernet nor to IRC.
But please keep informed that we're not attending the Linuxtag neither
as a Free Project nor with a FUDCon. The SC decided so but I agree with
that decission.
Later more ...

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] An idea re ambassadors
by Clair
Those paying attention would've noticed that one problem I am having with
ambassadors is that there is too much focus on events (big or small), rather
than just telling people on the street, in your workplace, at your school
about fedora.
So, I propose another project is started... a project who's focus is to go
around and educate, and tell, people about fedora. To answer people's
questions. It won't be about going around to groups of people, it will be
about telling people about fedora on a one-to-one basis.
This way, the Ambassadors project will be able to support events better, and
telling people on the street won't be neglected.
I'd be willing to run the project.
What does everyone think?

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] FC5 media schwag
by Thomas Canniot
Last week and this week during the meetings we discussed about the media
on which FC5 will be distributed.
The Free Software Fundation is on our back, they want us to give the
sources of the software FC packages. Let's give them what they want for
FC5 !
Some of us think that a double layered DVD is more appropriate. Some of
us think that adouble sided is more approrpiate. What about labelling?
Let's debate now!
----------
My point of view : I think that we should ask for a double layered DVD,
for the label to be printed largely and then be visible. This would
bring clarity to our media.
Cheers,
Thomas Canniot
