[JDLL 2007] Conclusion
by H. Guémar
JDLL 2007 (Lyon, France) has ended few hours ago.
Fedora was represented by FedoraProject Ambassadors:
- Maxime Carron (Pingoomax)
- Benoit Marcelin (Sereinity)
- Guillaume Kulawski (Llaumgui) today
- and myself Haikel Guemar (Karl_le_Rouge)
- community members: killwin, boarf, kikoo, daneel
And also Fedora-FR our local user group.
We maintained a stand during todays, surrounded by OpenSolaris,
OpenBSD, and Ubuntu-fr. We had few demo machines (2 workstations and 4
laptops under Rawhide, a macbook under F7).
There were different categories of visitors: complete newbies who
wanted to know "what's the difference between Fedora and Ubuntu",
Linux users, few professionals etc.
JDLL 2007 hosted stand from Mozilla Europe, GNOME-fr, PostgreSQL,
OpenOffice.org, APRIL (French Free Software lobby group which
federates many associations), Framasoft, traduc.org (French French
Software translator group who host many translation project),
LinuxChixFrance, etc..
Some companies were represented: Linagora, OpenSide, Kisoh
(TuxDroids), Alinto, C-S etc...
We had conferences about GNOME (V. Untz), Firefox 3 (Tristan Nitot,
Mozilla Europe CEO) and XUL (Paul Rouget, Mozilla E.), DRMs (Sam
Hocevar, Debian Project Leader and VLC developer),OpenSolaris (It
rocks !), Free (as in speech) Music, Accessibility and free software,
OpenOffice, Blender, RoR, Electronic voting etc.. etc ....
Our communication focused more on FedoraProject and our community
experience than Fedora Linux (the distro). Many people don't
understand the difference between RedHat and FedoraProject and how our
community works.
People were quite impressed by system-config-tools, livecd-tools +
revisor. Smolt and statistic project was also on the spot (2.2
millions FC6 installation, 1.7 millions for F7). People liked
Rawhide's sober and clean artwork. Rawhide's animated wallpaper was a
big hit ! Fedora Artwork team, you rocks guys !
Focusing our speech on the community and our philosophy (working
upstream and leading innovation) has allowed us to catch the
attention. People appreciated FedoraProject contribution to
system-config-printer (which has been integrated in the latest
Ubuntu), PackageKit, NetworkManager, selinux, AIGLX etc...
We distributed few F7 live-cds we previously burnt, some will give
a(nother) try to Fedora.
We also spent some time presenting our new local association Fedora-FR.
We had a special guest as Vincent Untz from GNOME fame who represented
GNOME-fr.
Llaumgui and I managed to have a lightning talk presenting
FedoraProject and Fedora-FR association.
This was a premiere of FedoraProject and Fedora-FR in JDLL, we hope to
return next year and spread Fedora !

Little question
by Frederic Hornain
Dear *
First of all, I know I was not quite active these last months on this forum.
:(
But I have good reasons for that. Big Open source production projects first
!
So, I am available now.
BTW, I have got one little question.
If someone could help me to give me answer I would really appreciate.
So, to who have I to suggest new interesting open source project in the
fedora community ?
Thanks in advance for your great help.
BR

[Fwd: Fedora Project volunteering]
by Karlie Robinson
Anyone have a good place for a trial-by-fire volunteer looking to learn
what Fedora and Linux are all about?
If so, please contact Steven directly.
Thanks,
Karlie

Dear Karlie,
I'm new to Fedora and figure that the best way to learn Fedora Linux
is to dive in and ask how I could contribute.
Reporting from Chicago, I'm an English major-turned-computer geek.
By day I write DHTML-based software documentation for an online
brokerage firm and also run their help desk. By night, I contribute
at forums.egullet.org, a food-and-cooking website. Here's a piece I
wrote on my favorite divey fried chicken joint; it's called
Bulletproof Cuisine:

Finally, I'm fluent in Spanish so I could help with international
marketing of Fedora.
I'm happy to write documentation and translate from GeekSpeak to
everyday English, but I'd especially like to learn the
nuts-and-bolts of Linux, so I'll contribute in whatever way you
think would help.
I look forward to joining the Fedora community and buying my very
own Penguinista sweatshirt.

Hello India Ambassadors..
Just giving you feedback regarding FreeMedia program i was not in town
recent weeks so couldnt attend the meetings... as you can see at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Distribution/FreeMedia/India we have a
rather small list this month and i was thinking that its possible to
fill 100% of them, out of 28 we already have shipped 6 thanks to
RamamurthyShiroor and MehulPatel
I would like to get a little help regarding this if anyone of you can
take up at least 1 media responsibility... please reply this thread
the number you can take up.. every one will count... meanwhile i am
preparing to clear the backlog since May and will be shipping 5 for
this month.. I am proposing to terminate all those previous May 2007..
Thanks for your support.
