Fedora NPO founded at FOSDEM in Bruxelles
by Gerold
Dear *,
it is a great pleasure for us to share with you the official announcement
of the Fedora EMEA NPO as you can read below:
The idea of improving the way in which Fedora is supported started in
2006, and has been given shape and carefully prepared during the
following year. On February 23rd, 2008, conform German Law and
established in the German district Lörrach, 10 active members of the
European Fedora Community founded a non-profit association called
"Fedora EMEA e.V.".
This foundation increases the possibilities to inform a broader mass
about the Fedora Project and forms a focal point and economic base for
Fedora Project supporters. For companies and other organizations, the
Fedora Project supporters are now organized in a solid, efficient and
transparent way. The foundation reports to the Fedora Project regularly.
As President of the Board, the members elected Gerold Kassube (Germany),
long-time member of the Fedora Ambassador Team. The members also
elected Jeroen van Meeuwen (The Netherlands), and Fabian Affolter
(Switzerland) to become the organization's Vice-Presidents, and trusted
Robert Scheck (Germany) to manage the foundations assets.
In just a few weeks, during LinuxTag 2008 in Germany, the foundation has
it's first General Members Assembly. Because all parties involved still
have a lot of work to do, the necessary information to support the
organization and membership subscription forms will become available
online in the near future.

Also, it would be useful for the report details to be public or atleast
more information on what is being reported.

Summary of FOSDEM reports
by Max Spevack
I've collected up as many of the FOSDEM reports as I could find:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/FOSDEM/FOSDEM2008#reports
Feel free to add others.
I really enjoyed reading all of these, and my sincere thanks to everyone
who took the time to write them up. These reports are the only "proof"
that we have for everyone who is not at the event of why it is useful to
spend the time and money to actually be visible and present in our
community.

Fedora EMEA and Trademark Usage
by Paul W. Frields
The Fedora Board grants permission to use the FEDORA trademarks to the
new Fedora EMEA group, provided that it:
1. furthers the Fedora Project's mission, adheres to its principles,
and uses proceeds exclusively for those purposes;
2. promotes the Fedora brand in a consistent, positive, and
constructive way; and,
3. makes a quarterly report to the Fedora Project Board.
The Fedora Project Board retains the rights to make its decisions
whether to permit usage of the FEDORA trademarks on a case by case
basis, and to limit or withdraw permission to use the Fedora trademarks
for any reason and at any time.
Previously, the Fedora Project has granted limited trademark use
permissions to the following unaffiliated groups: Fedora News, Fedora
Forum, Fedora FAQ, Fedora Unity, and Fedora France.

Redhat Legal
by Tony Guntharp
So someone at Redhat sent the Data Portability Group
(http://www.dataportability.org) a cease and desist in regards to the
similarity of the logo.
I'm surprised at this as the fedora logo is a color schemed version of
the infinity symbol. Which I believe cannot be trademarked as the
infinity symbol would definately fall under prior art.
Karsten Wade: care to research this further or point me to the proper
asshat at Redhat ?
thanks

The Delivery for Fosdem is stopped. They are not able to ship it to Brussels
till saturday.
I am so sorry to disappoint your joyful anticipation :´(
I am powerless! We will not have Poloshirts on Fosdem!
Joerg
The Vendor will store the charge so i have not to pay for his mistake.
Next time you can order for Linuxtag, i will post it on the wiki next Week -
then hopefully to order in the name of "Fedora EMEA e.V."
