Ambassador Polos on Fosdem!!! Attention
by Joerg Simon
Hello Ambassadors,
right now the vendor told me he send the charge of Polo Shirts we ordered to
Poland - :-( - I told them twice to change the Place of delivery
So i try to solve the situation, but i am not sure if we have Polos on Fosdem.
When not, we have nothing to lose - but we will not get Polos in the worst
case :-(
So those who ordered, put some clothes more in your bag.
@PawelSadowski !!!DO NOT!!! accept deliveries from SantaFeTex except you can
bring it to Fosdem!
Cheers Joerg

FOSDEM: stands/devrooms: last update
by Frederic Hornain
Dear all,
Almost there ;)
Just one or two missed points before the event :
> Could someone bring hoarding, posters, banners ? - http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Hoarding?highlight=%28HOARDING%29 -
I already know Francesco, Joerg and Xavier are going to do that.
Please could you confirm that ?
In addition, if you could be at the booth between 12:00 and 14:00 in
order to prepare it before the rush.
Thanks a lot for your great comprehension and you help.
> Could someone bring a demo PC ?
Even if a lot of ambassador are going to bring their laptop or
notebook, I think it could be interesting to bring a demo PC.
I know Marek have proposed to bring his one but it was not sure. Could
you confirm that ?
Thanks a lot in advance.
>As you probably know, we are going to have only one or two physical
network cable at our booth, so could someone bring a switch in order
to facilitate network at our booth ?
FYI, it should have wireless network anyway.
Thanks a lot.
For my part, I going to bring power distribution strips (as used in
Belgium: type C/E [1]) - [1]
http://users.pandora.be/worldstandards/electricity.htm#plugs_e -
Thanks a lot for your help and your comprehension.
FYI >>
A few details before everyone heads off to Brussels.
DEVROOMS:
~~~~~~~~~
It seems like most rooms will be empty before 14:00 hence we don't
expect issues with that.
But still, devrooms are only available to you from 14:00 on on Saturday.
Rooms close at 19:00 *SHARP* on Saturday. Please understand that FOSDEM have
to do some cleaning, close the buildings with the security staff of ULB,
etc.. on Saturday evening. So I'd ask you to kindly throw everyone out
at 19:00 (or before).
On Sunday, we start at 09:00 and close at 18:00 (same goes as for
Saturday). We'll try to follow the schedule you've sent us as closely as
possible in terms of opening + closing the rooms but please bare with us
if we're a few minutes late (or come bug us at the Infodesk).
Don't leave the rooms unattended!
If everyone is to leave the room then please poke us at one of the
Infodesks _first_ so we can close the room.
If you need anything or if there's an issue of any sorts, please head to
one of the Infodesks (one at the main entrance in H and one at the
entrance in AW (*)) -- they're equipped with friendly FOSDEM staff ;)
(*) those are buildings on the Solbosch campus at ULB:
http://fosdem.org/2008/maps/campus
A video projector, a projection screen and an internet connection (WLAN
a/b + 1 wired at the speaker's desk) will be provided.
STANDS:
~~~~~~~
As a reminder, each stand is actually a table of 2m width and FOSDEM
Team provide
two seats per table as well as wireless (a+b) and wired (see above,
please bring along cables and switches). FOSDEM Team'll try to do our best on
wired but if you really, really need CAT5, better bring along an AP or
wifi router (we can only guarantee wifi).
FOSDEM TEAM'll stick A4 sheets with FEDORA project name on the tables
so you'll know
where to install your stuff. I can't tell you in which building which
project will be (FOSDEM'll have stands in H and AW this year) because
FOSDEM Team're
going to improvise that on Friday ;)
If you don't want to go around both hallways to see for yourself, poke
the friendly staff at the Infodesks, they'll have a list.
See you at the beer event ;)
cheers
Kind Regards
Frederic

good luck at FOSDEM
by Max Spevack
Hey all,
Good luck at FOSDEM this weekend. I hope it's a great show -- I really
enjoyed it there last year, and I'm sorry that I'm missing it this year.
I can't wait to see all the familiar faces at LinuxTag.
Please take pictures, write blog posts about the event and what you do
there, etc.
Let's show the entire Fedora Planet how great FOSDEM is.
If you are a Fedora Ambassador and you don't have your Fedora blog
linked to Fedora Planet, please Seth Vidal know.
Thanks,
Max

LinuxTag rooms (PLEASE READ)
by Max Spevack
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/LinuxTag/LinuxTag2008/Rooms
This is the current list of rooms. We need you to:
(1) Make sure that you are still going. If not, please remove yourself
from the list.
(2) Make sure that you are ok with the roommate that you have been
assigned. If not, please speak up.
(3) MAKE SURE THAT YOUR NAME WAS NOT ACCIDENTALLY REMOVED. We tried to
organize people by room. If we removed your name by mistake, put it
back!
(4) Try to figure out if we can consolidate people any further... for
all 5 nights, a double room is 625 euros and a single room is 525 Euros.
Once the final list of rooms and roommates is set, we can begin to
determine how much the Fedora Project can contribute to the total cost
of the hotel.
Thanks,
Max

idea for *every* event
by Max Spevack
Here is a proposal for two activities that we should have at every
event. In particular, I'd like to see us do it at FOSDEM, FISL, and
LinuxTag:
(1) A "join Fedora" station. Somewhere at the booth, there is a
computer or laptop with a sign on it that says "come here to join the
Fedora Project" or something like that. There is one person whose job
is to talk to folks, get them interested in Fedora, and help them to go
through the CLA and WikiEditing process. The success metric is simple:
* Did the person leave having set up their Fedora Wiki homepage?
* Did the person become a Fedora Ambassador?
* Does the person have some idea of what they might like to
contribute to Fedora?
* How many accounts were created at the event?
(2) A "bring us your USB key, and we'll turn it into a Fedora LiveUSB
key for you" station. Same idea as above. We have a computer that has
several Fedora Spins on it. People bring their USB key, and we run the
livecd-iso-to-disk tool and set their USB keys up as Fedora LiveUSB
keys. Again, the metric is simple:
* How many were created at the event?
Thoughts or comments?

Fedora NPO
by Gerold
Hello Ambassador World,
as you might have read, Jeroen and me are trying to found a
Non-profit-Organisation (aka NPO) for Europe and we want to found this
FEDORA EMEA entity @ FOSDEM ...
In the past few days I have to answer a lot of questions because it seems
that we haven´t done our homework very well to announce, explain and
answer the questions of everybody of you ...
So what shall we do right now? Shall we postpone the founding and use the
FOSDEM as a Q&A event from our side? Should we found this NPO?
BTW: Let me explain a few things about thinking about that NPO:
We (Jeroen and me and a lot of other Ambassador attending the FAD EMEA
2007) thought we found this NPO in GERMANY (depends on German Law) BECAUSE
I personaly founded such a NPO, "my" local LinuxUser Group Loerrach. This
NPO -in which I hold the chair at the moment- is acknoledged by German law
to spend tax reductable donation receipts (for companys, members,
everyone) ...
Back to the basics (of that German law of founding) ...
First you need to be seven legal persons who are willing to found such a NPO.
Second, you need to meet face-to-face.
Third, ONLY people from THIS foundational meeting are allowed to
- accept and vote for the statutes
- elect the BOARD of the NPO who much attend that meeting in person
FOURTH, In the statutes who are in German, you give the frame of your
entity and its Goals, Amount of Board, membership fee and so on.
That´s I hope are all dependencies who must be fullfilled to 100% ...
Any comments? Ideas? Doubts?
Let me/us know!
