EUROPE: CDs, Shirts and Stickers

Hi Fedora Europe Ambassadors, I wanted to give a status report on swag in Europe. Alessandra Moraldi from marketing in Munich has helped me to get 400 Live CDs created. I will bring some of them with me to FrOSCon and we'll hang on to the rest to use at other events leading up to Fedora 10. Marek Mahut in Brno already has a bunch of Fedora 9 DVDs for us to use at FUDCon, so that is all set. However, we need to talk about shirts and stickers. It's time for us to try to increase our efficiency by creating some Fedora tshirts and stickers, and sending them to a few different Ambassadors throughout Europe. The Fedora EMEA e.V. non-profit has sufficient funding (from memberships and also from the main Red Hat Community Architecture budget) to handle a bill of about 1000 - 1500 EUR. I was going to email Joerg privately because he and I spoke on IRC a few days ago, but I thought it would be better to have the thread on the mailing list. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/T-Shirt http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/MarketingCollateral Here's what we need to do: 1) Pick a shirt design. 2) Pick a sticker design. 3) Get quotes from vendors on cost and quantity. 4) Make decisions on quantities and sizes. 5) Give shipping addresses. 6) Pay. I know that we have some pre-existing vendors that have been used in the past. Any volunteers from our Europe Ambassador group to start looking into an order? I'm hoping that we can have stuff in time for FrOSCon, which is on August 23. Thanks, Max

Lindependence and RMLL reports?

Over the weekend, two interesting events happened -- one was Lindependence and the other was RMLL. No time pressure, as I know that everyone is busy -- but I'm curious to see the event reports from both of those, both from the perspective of how things went, but also from the perspective of whether or not we should fund them again next year. I hope they both went well! --Max

Planning F10 Release Events

This is an invite to everyone, especially local meetings' chairs, local groups coordinators to help FAmSCo planning F10 Release Events adding this topic in your Agenda (e.g. IRC meetings). Your collaboration is important because you know better than anyone else what is better for your local area, in that way FAmSCo is here to hear from you what you need and what you want to see for the next F10 Release Events. I know those aren't BIG events, but they are designed to cover the "entire planet", so it would be helpful to be able to organize such events in most of the country (see the Members country list to have an idea). Hoping to give you more infos soon and waiting to read your feedbacks from this list or from IRC meetings (I'll try to cover most of them, or I'll read the log) Best regards Francesco Ugolini

I have cleaned up the Event Report guidelines page on the wiki. Please remember that an event report is required if you are a leader of an event, and highly suggested if you attend an event, but are not the primary organizer. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/ReportingGuidelines We've been doing a great job on event reports, but we must make sure it continues!! Drupal International event Fedora promotion at Gujarat , India

Dear All, I am Nilesh at (city :)Ahmedabad, (state) Gujarat, country India, are participating a drupal camp from 8-10 August 2008. It was already mention by Mr. Nirmal Pathak and Mr. Nehal Dattani. As Fedora 9 is offering drupal out of the box we are going to distribute Feodar DVD as a part of the official Kit. Total participation will be around 500 candidates. We also like to print Fedora Log on DVDs. One more thing I am going to conduct one presentation of 2 hour on Performance tuning of Apache with Mr. Niraj Bhatt (www.niraj.info ). Anybody in Gujarat can Join us at Drupal camp. Fedora project

Hello Ambassador folks I've been invited to participate at a little event in my Hometown State University [1] this October , the main focus of the event would be free software and I'm supposed to speak about the Fedora project. along other participants including Richard Stallman !!!!. Personally I feel very honored to share the same forum with Mr Stallman and when people ask me I always answer that it is just as if you're learning to play piano and someone asks you to perform along Mozart. Anyway, I'm working on my presentation and looking through the ambassador's resources I found Rahul's very illustrative and filled with a lot of helpful information [2], although it does not contain the most recent one. Can anyone help me find the updated numbers? Other useful information will be appreciated also. My second point its a little more complicated since it implies philosophical issues. Mr Stallman explains in his publications that it is not exact to use the word "linux" to refer to an OS or a particular distro since Linux is only the kernel and the rest of the OS is somehow derived from its original work (bash, editor, compilers, etc). [3] Question: Do we at Fedora share and honor this principle? Shall we refer to our and other distros as GNU/Linux as he suggests? Other thing that confuses me is that Stallman states that open source is a motto of a movement that was formed as a reaction against the free software movement.[4] He even says that he refuses to participates in "open source" or "linux" events but he's willing to participate in events denominated "Free Software and Open Source? " or so as long as his speech is not the main focus of the event. I saw the words "open source" a lot along many Fedora presentations, but my doubts still remain. Do we have any policy regarding Open Source and/or Free Software? It is going to be hard to me to debate about freedom against RMS so I would prefer only to talk about our project, but stating clearly what we stand for. It is not my intention to start an even bigger internal debate within our strong and happy community but it is to get some help in getting me clarify these question.
