LinuxWorld SF - who, what, other planning
by Karsten Wade
Anyone going to LinuxWorld next week?
Want to help with the Fedora booth?
Yep, a little late in the planning, but, oh well. :)
Let's start filling out the who, what, where, and when here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Events/LinuxWorld_SF_2008
(I started to fix that page up, it still needs some help.)

EventBox/EventKits
by David Nalley
Hi All:
At the last NA meeting Clint Savage and I took on the responsibility
of defining what our event box should contain, how many there should
be, etc. We also decided to define what we needed in regards to
individual ambassadors having a kit to let them handle small events
like LUG meetings, etc. If you are not in NA, please still take a look
at this - especially you guys in EMEA who seem to have this down a
little better than we do. Please offer comments or edit the wiki.

FAD EMEA 2008
by Francesco Ugolini
I want to point EMEA guys and everyone interested, that from Friday,
2008-11-14 to Sunday, 2008-11-16 in Basel(Switzerland) there will be FAD
(Fedora Ambassadors Day) 2008. For more information just take a look at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD/FADEMEA2008 .
According to the previous posts made by the Orga Team, the main goal is to
have a person per country (in EMEA) so it could be possible to discuss in
a better way about 2009 activities.
I think this is an amazing experience for a Ambassador, here you could
stay in contact with people from different countries and you could discuss
about the future of the project in your Region.
I hope this experience could be repeated in the other regions (see LATAM,
AN; APAC etc.), because I can assure there is nothing powerful than this
event.
Hope to See you there

Introduction Sven Lankes
by Sven Lankes
Hello Ambassadors,
I have recently joined the Fedora project as a package maintainer and
decided to also apply for membership in the ambassadors group to spread
the word about Fedora and free software in general.
I live in Western Germany roughly between Duesseldorf and the Dutch
border and am working with linux professionally for ten years now as
Sysadmin and (Web)-Developer.
One thing that I would like to help out with is represent Fedora at
events in my area. The next event that isn't too far away is froscon at
the end of august - unless the fedora booth is already packed with
ambassasors for the weekend I would like to offer my help there (already
added myself to the wiki).

Very disappointed - What's our role as ambassadors?
by Sílvio Reis
What is our role as ambassadors?
I think that is promoting the Fedora in our country, am i wrong?
So I became ambassador to promote Fedora in Portugal.
But I believe there are ambassadors who don't think this way, at least in
Portugal.
As already announced in this list, it will start soon the site for the
project Fedora Portugal.
The other 5 Portuguese ambassadors were invited on several occasions to
participate in the website.
More than a month passed and still not got an answer.
The point is this: I live in Luxembourg and I am alone in this
adventure, *should
I start the project without any support? *
The only support I have had, has been the Brazilian ambassadors as Eunir
Augusto (which made most of the work!), Erick Gomes and Rodrigo Padula.
In Portugal Fedora is unknown, has a bad translation, has no wiki and just
does not have a community.
So we urgently need a web site with a forum and a wiki.
We need to bring together the users, and encouraging more people to
translate the Fedora.
With the help of Brazilian ambassadors, the site could start operating next
month.
The question is: who will be there?
That is why I ask your opinion:
*it is worth starting the site even alone, without the support of another 5
Portuguese ambassadors?*

Self Introduction
by John Taber
Hi everyone,
I run a strategic planning consulting company (city/traffic/land
development) using intelligent systems that I have developed over the
years. I also run a company that will be shortly launching a web
service for the above. Have a wide range of experience especially
throughout the transportation industry.
I'm also an adjunct professor and looks like I'll be teaching some entry
level and AI courses this year.
Been running Linux since 1998 and switched our company to it full time
in 2000. Find it lame when most companies (especially big ones) say
they can't or it's so difficult to make the switch. Albeit there's a
few exceptions - engrs use Autocad - but even some of those firms are
using Samba with RH servers.
I do our web development now in Python (but also speak Ruby/Rails, PHP,
Java ). All our graphics are in SVG and I am a strong advocate of SVG.
We use Inkscape a lot so I help out each year at SCALE with the Inkscape
project and give presentations on it at user groups.
I also evangelize Linux/Open Source where ever I go. I keep reminding
customers why they need open source (choice of options, features (like
built in pdf, cd burning, backups, ....) upgrades, tech support). At
hotels when I see business people struggling - I tell them about how we
run on Linux and how they can too - then I suggest a dual boot system
and give them a CD. At a bookstore I got a college student running
OpenOffice on her Mac when I overheard her complaining about cost - a
week later she was thrilled and telling her friends.
Active with several local user groups (Utah Open Source, Python, Ruby,
PHP).
I hope to work with Fedora on college student initiatives - maybe act as
some sort of Faculty advisor. I also hope to make more presentations
to business groups on open source. Maybe coordinate CIO/CTO breakfasts,
whatever.

Re: Event Proposal
by Santosh Kumar
Hey Guys
I just had a informal talk with the Oklahoma Supercomputing Symposium 2008
event organizer about having a Fedora stall and a brief talking slot for
which he agreed. The symposium is scheduled for Oct 6th & 7th later this
year and is the 7th year which brings in enthusiasts from the Great Plains
and Southern US. Of particular interest to the Symposium would be spreading
the word about our project Fedora Nightlife - Community based Grid system. I
am sure that we can reach the scientific community. I would like to know if
i can go ahead and submit a formal proposal for event.

Thanks for your time!
