Greetings from new member
by Andrey Padiy
Hi,
My name is Andriy. I started using Linux a few years ago and played with
different distros eventually falling in love with Fedora. I work as an IT
support officer and have some programming background.
Currently based in London, UK but was born in Ukraine (Chernihiv). I would
like to represent Linux in region of Ukraine where I come from and get
Involved in translation.
I set up a group (http://vkontakte.ru/club4453181) in Russian facebook
(used by former USSR countries ) http://vkontakte.ru
and translated http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/TalkingPoints page in
to Ukrainian.
Also I have created a simple how to in Ukrainian to help those that wish to
try Fedora.
Internet is growing fast in Ukraine and I believe its the right time to make
people aware of Fedora.
I ve started inviting local students and young people to join the group.
Also I will start getting involved in Localization project from next week.
If anyone needs help please do not hesitate to contact me.

Re: [Ambassadors] Submit your request for Free Fedora DVD
by Samavedam Vijayasaradhi
we can create a repository or something where ever the fedora ambassadors are
available and from where the media requests are coming the most....also
not many ppl will be able to give media on their own so it would be better if there are
two repositories one where ppl can afford to give media and another where
the dvd's have to be brought to the ambassadors for collecting fedora

hi,
i dont understand the "Now its my time to say you that you pls refer .." bit..
Itll be better if all concerned sign up for the one already present freemedia program (apart local contacts) rather than having more indivisual ones..Lets us keep a record of things.. Also if you send media in the local contacts page please put it up on the tracker
page..

Greetings from Sherbrooke, Québec
by Oisin Feeley
Hello Ambassadors,
I'd like to introduce myself to the Ambassadors group. I'm Oisín Feeley
and am writing from Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada. I've been involved with
GNU/Linux since 1995 with the majority of that experience devoted to Red
Hat and latterly Fedora. I started experimenting with GNU/Linux when I
was a student programming in C using Borland's IDE for Windows and also
using Solaris-2.4(SunOS-5.4). On the recommendation of a colleague tried
Emacs, gcc and gdb on Red Hat Linux 2.0. It was a revelation both in
terms of the workflow and the amount of knowledge freely shared
(especially in contrast to the clunky, expensive knowledgebase I had to
subscribe to in order to find out about Microsoft Foundation Classes and
the impact of the price of Sun's compiler on the laboratory budget).
Soon I was sucked in to the excitement of trying different Linux
distributions and after some fun with Debian and Slackware settled back
on Red Hat Linux. Although I experimented actively with other
distributions and had work requirements to support Debian I remained
impressed with the commitment of the Red Hat to hire the best developers
producing Free Software (for example with the acquisition of Cygnus) and
ended up taking the RHCT and RHCE. The foundation of the Fedora Project
and its support by Red Hat continues this trend of a successful
enterprise carefully nurturing the base of Free Software in which it
thrives.
Currently I work supporting Fedora, CentOS and Debian for some small
businesses. I'm also involved in developing modules for Drupal (using
JavaScript and PHP) for an education-sector company. Within the Fedora
Project my contributions centre on writing the Development Beat for
Fedora Weekly News. I also participate as part of the editorial team of
FWN.
I would like to raise the profile of Fedora where I live. Currently most
Linux activity seems to be centred on Ubuntu and there are
misconceptions and misunderstandings about what Fedora can offer. This
area of Canada is predominantly francophone which adds an extra
challenge to my task as I'm originally an English-speaker (from
Ireland), mais je suis étudiant en français!
Best wishes,

Fedora Ambassador
by Eugene Jansen van Rensburg
Good day all,
My name is Eugene I live in Polokwane, South Africa. I am sort of new to this game but I'm already in love with it... I can't get enough. At the moment I am contracted to the Department of Health and Social Development as a SysAdmin. I support 86 RHEL 4 servers and have the RHCE certification.
--For the "Ambassadors" Project--
I am planing to start a LUG over here. I already have a sponsor for the domain and for hosting. I have 4 other friend that is also very keen to get into it with me. Fedora is my distro of choice so obliviously I'll be promoting that lots and lots on the new LUG site. There is a big "Open Source" trend going on around here and every body wants to know about it. It's almost the same as when they first introduced "Brought Band Internet Access" in South Africa. I government circles this is even bigger. They do not have a clue what open source is but they want to implement it. So supplying information and about Fedora and Open source will be my main focus for now.
