Hi all, I send you one intesenting video about one the most important
technologies development around the OpenSolaris project and his porting
(with success) to other OS like Linux and BSDs... exactly on Fedora Linux 9.
http://vfernandezg.blogspot.com/2008/09/zfs-on-linux.html => ZFS
"Fedora is our key open source development platform with the community -- we
have no plans to change that," Whitehurst said. "It is our community edition
from which we develop a true enterprise-class piece of software with Red Hat
Enterprise Linux, so it's core to what we do. It's not something we look at
directly monetizing nor is it something that we have considered."
Im from india, gujarat there are still lots of are where fedora has not
reach yet. I need your help in spreading fedora if you can send me some CD's
or DVD's then i can spread it in a wide range of places this may increase
many number of users also. So if any body out there can help me with this
please contact me at my mail id.
Sorry for the late reply. I was extremely busy in the SFD08 program. We have
celebrated a lot and hope everyone did.
We have a group here and please guys join us @
I have sent you:
30 CDs of Fedora (5 cd per distro *6 distros)
1 Net install CD
Total 31 CDs.
To Guys in himanchal pradesh, India. Hope this work will count and spread
Linux around the globe.
PS: I don't know how to track the parcel in the courier. The service is GMS
and the tracking code is 100852097. Hope some one will find out a way.

I attended the Atlanta Linux Fest on Saturday. The event was organized
mainly by Ubuntu's Georgia LoCo, but had assistance from several of
the other LUGs in the area. Dave Yates, podcaster extraordinaire,
claims attendance at 144. For a first year event that's a great turn
out. I was invited to talk about what's coming in Fedora 10 and also
talked about some interesting things like Cobbler, FreeIPA, and OLPC.
I have had a number of people come up and tell me that they've never
heard of FreeIPA and an equal number that want to get involved with
OLPC. It's nice to meet some new faces and put some faces with old
names. Jas Eckard had his OLPC XO and that of course drew lots of
attention. This event has completely wiped me out with regards to
We came away with a number of ideas - including the thought of
creating a Southeast Open Source blog aggregator - ie Open Source
Southeast Planet. We are trying this out with our Local LUG right now
- Planet UCLUG lives, though it needs a ton of work from someone who
can make things pretty. Hopefully will have something Southeast wide
I had a number of people come up to me at the event after I mentioned
FreeIPA as another cool thing being worked on in Fedora. They were
absolutely awestruck - and virtually no one had heard of the project.
Another Fedora Project that made waves was First Aid Kit which I
mentioned almost right after someone talked about what to do if grub
became hosed in Ubuntu.
-!- ke4qqq changed the topic of #fedora-meeting to: Fedora Ambassadors
< ke4qqq> DavidNalley
< N3LRX> RandyBerry aka dp67
< ke4qqq> welcome Randy
< rislam> hi all
< rislam> sorry to miss last couple meeting
* DemonJester BrianPowell
< ke4qqq> so who is leading this meeting?
< herlo> w00t! we're definitely growing :)
< inode0> JohnRose
< rislam> meeting starts already
< rislam> RashadulIslam
< crossbytes> KevinHiggins
< pcalarco> nine, nice turnout!
< herlo> yep, sure is
< herlo> ke4qqq: did we invite spevack?
< ke4qqq> I did he siad he couldn't attend, but I have his answers
< ke4qqq> it's 5am there or something
< herlo> yes, its actually 2am, I was wrong before
< inode0> Is there an agenda beyond FADNA budget?
< herlo> well, as per normal, we could go through tasks
< ke4qqq> much to speak about
< ke4qqq> but it iusn't listed unfortunately
< herlo> I think someone needs to make sure the meeting agenda isn't ignored
< herlo> should we each take a week?
< rislam> i only see the budget at the agenda
< herlo> there are four regional ambassadors...
< ke4qqq> yes - lets let rislam take it this week!
< herlo> okay
< herlo> +1
< herlo> I'm happy to do the stuff for next week
< karlie1> KarlieRobinson
< karlie1> sorry I'm late
< herlo> Hi karlie1
< herlo> I saw you a minute ago
< rislam> oh i am behind of couple weeks
< herlo> you looked like you were on time
< rislam> i would be happy someone take this week
< karlie1> I'm having touble with IRC on my own computer. Using Todd's now\
< herlo> indeed
< herlo> rislam: I can post the logs, but its not hard to lead a
meeting. Why not give it a try?
< inode0> DemonJester: you are in charge, go :)
< DemonJester> lol..
< inode0> Ok, let's start
< inode0> FADNA budget - who has info on that?
< ke4qqq> !
< ke4qqq> we don't have an exact number
< ke4qqq> but max said the upper end is around 500
< ke4qqq> so it's gotta be less than that
< inode0> so what do want budget for?
< rislam> i believe each regional leader have 700 maximum
< ke4qqq> no - we have 700 total for this quarter - so we each have 175
< ke4qqq> plus event totals
< herlo> yeah, that
* herlo really tried to beat ke4qqq to that
< herlo> :)
< ke4qqq> but inode0 raises a good question
< herlo> the thing is, this is separate from the budgeted amounts, right ke4qqq
< ke4qqq> yes
< ke4qqq> this is basically because fudcon had left over funds
< rislam> its very important what the budget for
< pcalarco> we could cover lunch on Sunday for those attending
< herlo> so here's what I am thinking. We could use the funds to buy food
< herlo> for sunday
< herlo> breakfast and/or lunch
< herlo> but how many are coming? 5? 10?
< pcalarco> we get breakfast with the hotel methinks for free
< rislam> its not a good idea to expense only for food
< herlo> pcalarco: continental breakfasts aren't always that great
< pcalarco> six confirmed, two more possible
< inode0> looks like 9 signed up so far, can probably expect a few more
* herlo needs to confirm
* DemonJester as do I
< inode0> oops 8
* inode0 is counting on herlo and DemonJester
< herlo> DemonJester: you are now confirmed
< DemonJester> herlo: thx!
< herlo> np, figured why have two people edit
< herlo> I think there are other things to budget for, one is we could
purchase items to build the rest of the eventbox
< herlo> we still need a switch and a few other things. It will be at OLF
< inode0> I'd like to give volunteers a chance to pitch in first if possible
< ke4qqq> how big of a switch?
< herlo> inode0: good point, bring yer crap to OLF/FAD-NA :)
< inode0> I can give a switch without any problem - 16 port
< ke4qqq> and remember, we still have media to produce, so don't feel
obligated to spend 500 :)
< herlo> ke4qqq: can we get these funds either way? Or do we have to
spend them at FADNA?
< ke4qqq> no they are current surplus global realm of ambassadors has
access to it
< ke4qqq> so if we don't spend it here we could (or someone else could) spend it
< herlo> ahh, so we should try to get a budget for this money soon, if
I am reading this right?
< herlo> doesnt' really matter what its for, just something useful
< ke4qqq> exactly and that max will approve
* herlo sees that surplus being very useful for getting Media ramped up
< inode0> ok, question - do we need to decide this or is max just
willing to reimburse expenses up to around that amount?
< herlo> inode0: a couple thoughts about donations to EventBox, we
really should advertise this fact and we should not wait too long for
< ke4qqq> not planning is a bad idea....
< herlo> +1 ke4qqq
< inode0> herlo: was planning to suggest arranging that as an action
item for this week
< herlo> indeed, +1 inode0
< rislam> Event box should be promoted strongly\
< inode0> we have a box and it should leave OLF in great shape
< herlo> right
< herlo> k, back to the budget then
< inode0> back to my last question please?
< herlo> I think ke4qqq answered that
< inode0> do we need to itemize things in advance and have max approve things?
< ke4qqq> I want to get the money committed from max.....otherwise
it's free game for others
< inode0> if not I'd like to move on now
< herlo> sounds to me like we want it, but don't know what we'd use it
for at FADNA
< inode0> rislam: what beyond food did you have in mind?
< rislam> we should try to involve new Ambassadors\
< ke4qqq> and perhaps we need to table it for this week.
< ke4qqq> but I think we need a plan
< inode0> would it be alright to research previous FADs and look at
this next week? or during this week in #fedora-ambassadors?
< herlo> http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD/FADEMEA2008#Agenda
< ke4qqq> +1
< inode0> we don't seem prepared to deal with it right now
< herlo> I thinks this could help
< pcalarco> have we gone through the Ambassador list to see if there
are dormant Ambassadors from OH, IN, MI, etc. that we could prompt to
see if they plan on attending?
< pcalarco> would this be worth doing to get more folks attending FAD?
< inode0> pcalarco: I went through all I could find in Indiana and Michigan
< pcalarco> indoe: ok
< ke4qqq> pcalarco: we went through basically the entire us/canada
< inode0> I think it is a good idea to try to poke people about OLF though
< herlo> who's manning the booth at OLF? This might be a bit
off-topic atm, but I thought I'd bring it up
< ke4qqq> good question
< inode0> 30 minutes in, let's table budget at least until the end of
the meeting now and move on to tasks ...
< herlo> +1
< inode0> Polo update?
< inode0> Should be moved to completed?
< ke4qqq> +1
< herlo> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/NA/Tasks <-- we're
looking here now
< inode0> pcalarco: can you update us on polos round 2
< pcalarco> Still collecting monies for second round of orders, but
yes, these are ready to ship
< pcalarco> I have issued invoices to all who ordered
< inode0> good, how many ordered this time?
< pcalarco> 9 for 5 Ambassadors
* ke4qqq hasn't paid him yet - I'll try and take care of that tonight
or tomorrow morning at latest.
* DemonJester too
< pcalarco> thx guys :)
< inode0> alright, perhaps this will be wrapped up next week
< inode0> good job and thank you pcalarco
< pcalarco> glad to help
< inode0> ambassador kit news?
< herlo> inode0: no news, only that we'll be working on it at FUDCon F11 Boston
< inode0> event box news?
< ke4qqq> ohohoh I have some!!!
< herlo> EventBox is ready to ship, will be sending it out on Sunday to iWolf
< herlo> ke4qqq: go!
< ke4qqq> we have XOs now!
< herlo> w00t!
< ianweller> :-o
< rislam> thats a great 8 news
< inode0> so there is one item that will be deposited into the pelican at OLF
< herlo> how many?
< herlo> that pelican will be so happy
< inode0> there are 4 XOs as I understand it
< herlo> there's a thought, we should consider decorating the box to
look more fedora-ish
< herlo> sure, but I wanted to make sure we got them all.. :)
< jeremy> ... and XOs can soon run stock fedora :-)
< ke4qqq> yes!!
< inode0> rislam: are you coming to OLF/FADNA?
< ke4qqq> there are 4
* herlo hopes so
< karlie> I won't be at OLF
< karlie> Schedule conflicts
< rislam> i could not attend this time, i love to, but its quit
impossible for me these days
< herlo> sad eyes for karlie and rislam
< inode0> karlie: :( I wanted to go to your talk
< karlie> I was on the list for PA, and ON, but i have to back out
< rislam> but we love to see some pictures and make sure no body miss
us, its all of ur job
< rislam> :)
< inode0> rislam: just asked to see if we could pass off an XO to you there
< inode0> event box transfer policy update?
< ke4qqq> yeah avoid the shipping costs
< ke4qqq> and border hassles
< herlo> inode0: now that we have an eventbox, we should make this
discussion something we could add to the FADNA agenda??
< ke4qqq> +1
< ke4qqq> particularly expanding it so we have multiple
< inode0> yes
< herlo> sure, but I think we need to figure out how to run with just
one for now, because I'm not sure when we'll get funds to build
< inode0> before we leave event boxes will someone volunteer for the new task?
* herlo just ahd an awesom idea :)
< ke4qqq> whats the new task?
< inode0> setup a way for volunteers to contribute pieces we are
missing, sign up on the wiki, etc.
* herlo found a reason to use the budget 'EventBoxen' :)
< herlo> inode0: its already kind of there, just needs to be added to.
I did that on the eventbox page
< ke4qqq> ohhhhh
< inode0> and advertise it on f-a-l and elsewhere as appropriate?
< ke4qqq> so we add another "box"
< herlo> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/EventBox
< herlo> we should consider naming our boxen :)
< inode0> ideally we could have FADNA attendees bring most of what the
first one needs I think, if there were a clear way for them to assign
themselves pieces of it
< herlo> I want to call one 'Norma'
< inode0> herlo can name the first one what he wants
< ianweller> call one 'klauckengefroft'
< herlo> lol
* ianweller goes back into lurk mode
< herlo> ianweller: this is America, nobody speaks German :)
< ianweller> herlo: that's not even german :D
< herlo> if that is even what it is :D
< herlo> lol
< ianweller> mock german, at the most
< herlo> rofl
< inode0> dog german
< pcalarco> looks somewhat dutch
< ianweller> that's how i give hostnames to computers now hehe
< inode0> like dog latin
< herlo> okay, back on track people :)
< inode0> ok, yes, event box transfer policy update?
* herlo points up to his previous statement
< herlo> oops
< herlo> oh, wait, I did say that. 41minutes after the hour
< rislam> its been a while
< herlo> 19:40 < herlo> inode0: now that we have an eventbox, we
should make this discussion something we could add to the FADNA
< pcalarco> +1
< rislam> please add new bies as Ambassadors for the community
< inode0> oh, that was in answer to my question
< herlo> inode0: it was
< inode0> ok
< herlo> sorry, it wasn't clear
< inode0> passing over media unless iWolf is awake?
< inode0> Any other FAD business?
< rislam> and also the job performance of the Ambassadors
< herlo> rislam: hang on, that's new business. Goes at the end
< DemonJester> herlo: did you reserve a room?
< herlo> DemonJester: working on it, but vwbusguy wasn't answering my
* inode0 loses control to hotel booking agents
< DemonJester> herlo: good luck I have been calling since last week
< herlo> inode0: I don't think there is any other business...
< herlo> Bueller? Bueller?
< inode0> Any progress on event planning for FAD? I know there has been :)
< pcalarco> is it too early to plan for manning the Fedora booth at OLF?
< inode0> now is good, I wanted to discuss that too
< herlo> pcalarco: probably not, iWolf woudl be the one in charge of
that, but he's not here...
< pcalarco> we could set up a matrix like they used at LinuxTag 2007
< pcalarco> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/LinuxTag/LinuxTag2007
< pcalarco> smaller obviously, but
< ke4qqq> oohhhh +1
< herlo> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/OhioLinuxFest/OhioLinuxFest2008
< inode0> yeah, only one day and it will be easier to volunteer for
slots once the OLF schedule is released
< herlo> use that page...
< inode0> oh, ambassadors signing up for FADNA should sign up there
too I suppose
< pcalarco> great!
< inode0> ok, pcalarco: can you touch base with iWolf and see if he needs help?
< pcalarco> will do
< inode0> thanks
< herlo> we should link to FADNA page probably as well
* inode0 skips other outstanding tasks unless he hears screaming and
gnashing of teeth
* herlo looks
< herlo> nope, not from me
< inode0> open floor
< herlo> rislam: ??
< rislam> yes i am here
< herlo> new business
< rislam> please add newbie Ambassadors
< herlo> what does that mean?
< inode0> add to what?
< herlo> add them to what?
< rislam> we need to involve new ambassadors
< ke4qqq> so how do we do that
< ke4qqq> ?
< inode0> recruiting new ambassadors is on the FADNA agenda now
< herlo> in what form?
< inode0> I think ...
< zoglesby> I am new...I just got approved today and the process was
very fast and easy
< herlo> zoglesby: welcome
< inode0> welcome zoglesby
< inode0> meeting on your first day too
< rislam> welcome zoglesby
< ke4qqq> where are you at zoglesby?
< DemonJester> welcome zoglesby!
< zoglesby> Delaware and Spain
< zoglesby> I go back and forth a lot
< ke4qqq> cool
< rislam> new ambassadors should train and work together with all old
< herlo> rislam: back to your point now
< inode0> might you be at OLF or FUDcon Boston?
< inode0> mentoring is part of our mission
< herlo> rislam: do you have a proposal for such a thing? Would you
like to discuss this more in a meeting?
< rislam> thx inode0
< rislam> i love to discuss it more
< rislam> if all of u allow me to do so
< herlo> it is part of our mission, but its probably a good thing to
nail down how we go about such a thing
< inode0> actually I think it would be a good meeting topic too,
suggests rislam add it to an agenda
< DemonJester> +1
< herlo> rislam: add it to next week's agenda, we'll discuss it
< rislam> it would be great then
< ke4qqq> outstanding
< rislam> i prepare all the stuff then for that
< inode0> put it before the task list so we get to it :)
< ke4qqq> inode0: what's the button status?
< herlo> k
< rislam> thank u all for the support
< inode0> I ordered 1000 Fedora logo buttons, no ETA yet but I expect
them before OLF
< ke4qqq> rislam: shoot me an email with an address I can ship an XO to
< rislam> ah ok
< herlo> inode0: nice
< rislam> thx
< herlo> rislam: edit this page:
< herlo> oops
* herlo moves the page first
< inode0> DemonJester: didn't you want to discuss this at FADNA too?
< herlo> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Meetings/2008-09-29
< herlo> is now https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Meetings/2008-09-30
< DemonJester> inode0: yes
< herlo> DemonJester: inode0: trick is, rislam won't be at FADNA, so
we could discuss it further at FADNA maybe?
< inode0> would it be obnoxious to post agenda's in advance along with
the meeting reminder so when there are special topics ambassadors are
aware of them?
< herlo> inode0: nope, can do
< DemonJester> herlo: that is what I was thinking as well.
< pcalarco> that would be helpful, actually
* herlo wants to know if you guys liked the meeting reminders as it is anyway
< ke4qqq> inode0: hmmm some would say that'd be a good idea
< herlo> I can improve them a bit
< inode0> it will also help nudge us to create them
* ke4qqq was confused by this 'mountain time' :)
< herlo> lol
< herlo> MDT, its EDT -2
< karlie> well edt say
< rislam> i added it
< rislam> please check
< karlie> says it's past my bed time
< inode0> I like meeting reminders + agendas
< inode0> night karlie
< karlie> good night everyone
< herlo> I think I can make a cron job that does the reminders better
< herlo> so I will work on it...
< rislam> good night karlie
< DemonJester> gnite karlie
< pcalarco> gnk
< karlie> :-*
< inode0> are ianweller's new business cards official now?
< herlo> dunno
< ke4qqq> I think so but sure ianweller can tell us
< ianweller> i'd ask stickster_afk if he was around
* DemonJester hopes so I am getting some printed
< ianweller> he likes them
< ke4qqq> I thought we voted them in
< ianweller> i think everybody likes them, i dunno
< herlo> sounds like rubber-stamping to me
< ke4qqq> well if the fearless leader likes them they must be good
< ke4qqq> :)
< ianweller> if somebody can combine spoleeba's patch to get rid of
the inkscape requirement on it with my git repo i will be very happy
* ianweller looks at everyone in here
* inode0 likes them a lot and thanks ianweller for creating them and
dealing with all the critics
< ianweller> :)
* herlo ducks from ianweller's glare
< rislam> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Meetings/2008-09-30#Agenda
* ke4qqq was one of those as well
< rislam> please check
< ianweller> if anyone is more experienced at programming python,
though, and can combine the patch and the git repo and make it *work*,
please, please do
* ianweller will post the patch
< pcalarco> rislam: looks good here
< herlo> rislam: looks good
< inode0> Is there any other new business for tonight?
< herlo> nope, "not I", said the pig
< ke4qqq> wow - 1:12 that's a new record
< DemonJester> ;-)
* inode0 is intentionally trying to closer to 60 minutes than 90 minutes
< rislam> yeah I see tht
< inode0> get
< ke4qqq> +1
< rislam> its a new record for us\
< herlo> inode0: do you need me to post the notes?
< inode0> I'd appreciate it
< herlo> np, can do
< herlo> It will probably be tomorrow early afternoon, but I'll get
the summary up there too
< inode0> ok, will close meeting at quarter past the hour if there are
no new topics tonight
< ke4qqq> cool!
< ke4qqq> so rislam has next weeks?
< rislam> +1 inode
< rislam> ok
< herlo> perfect
< rislam> thx again all of u\
< inode0> EOF
< inode0> thanks everyone
