Brief Event Report - Fedora Event at Kandy
by Buddhike Kurera
Hello Folks,
I had an event
Venue: SLIIT, Kandy an IT education institution in Sri Lanka.
Date: 27th Oct 2011
Time : 1 pm-3 pm
The line up was,
* Introduction to FOSS
* Software Freedom Day 2011
* Fedora Project, Contribution
I was the speaker and the event last for about 2 hours.
Their lab computers are installed with Fedora 11 and I promised to send some
F16 DVD as soon as they are ready.
The staff is so excited about the project and willing to have another event
soon when their new batches arrived in around next January.
Looking forward to have more events under the "Fedora for Kandy" event
series[1] and get more contribution towards the project and
hope that will make the Fedora LK Community[2] bigger.
Here is the brief event report and more detailed story with photos will
be coming soon as soon I got them.

Quick Start Guide
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi everyone,
I have installed the newest Scribus and I have begun to make an
general 20 page jewel case sized booklet template and an booklet for
us. Me and t2hot has gathered earlier an draft text file with a bunch
of titles and themes around this, and I try to implement as many as I
could. Sadly I had no time earlier to finish it, and the earlier
scribus had also technical problems either. But now, it seems these
are now gone. We have huge hopes that I could provide an nice Quick
Start Guide for Fedora, and that makes easier to jump in to contribute
for new users. The selected jewel case size is not secretly targets
that book later on can be inserted into an CD jewel case, or even the
ambassador could give out the booklet itself (and glue it together the
last two page to insert the self made disc) at events. There are
plenty of ideas, but if you have any addition, thoughts about this -
don't hesitate to add them here.
Thanks, see you guys -
Zoltan

Vacation List/Short Break- Shadow Cabinet
by Richard Vijay
Hi Pascal and Fedora Experts
Good work.
I would like to throw light on our "taking a Short Break - List" as i
understand. I propose full usage for Ambassadors and editors too. Vacation
List
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Vacation
We can also add a shadow responsibility alike shadow cabinet of ministers, a
co-editor who can step in within 24 to 36 hours if timely update is not
done.
For Ambassadors Beat for which I hold, Buddhika will be shadow editor,
will be standing in if i am delayed/on vacation
Thanks and regards

Fedora Weekly News: needing invigoration
by Pascal Calarco
Hi folks -
We are more than a month since we have had enough content for another issue of FWN, and so I thought I would post openly to the News, Ambassadors, and Marketing lists, asking for some dialogue around this, and seeking some new contributors, perhaps.
Fedora Weekly News is a very important vehicle for letting both the Fedora community and the external Linux community, know what the happenings are with the Fedora Project. FWN has been around for many years and is a trusted brand that the community looks forward to each week.
Writing for FWN is definitely a time commitment, on a weekly basis, and so its understandable that FWN's volunteer beat writers sometimes have a hard time contributing on that regular a basis.
But, if we don't have writers for FWN, we don't have content to produce an issue, and the community loses the vibrant voice that they have relied on in the past.
Do you have suggestions for making FWN an easier time commitment? Should we consider moving FWN to a biweekly frequency for some beats that don't have enough content for a weekly beat?
So, I would like to hear from both current beat writers to FWN, and community members that perhaps would like to get involved as a writer for FWN. The bar is not high for participation. You basically need to have:
1) Continuing interest and passion in the Fedora Project, perhaps on some particular aspect or subproject that you'd like to write on
2) A bit of familiarity with Mediawiki tagging and conventions, and the Fedora Project wiki Style Guide
3) A Commitment to produce a beat on more or less weekly basis
Thanks for your time and consideration! I look forward to hearing from some of you and your ideas to make FWN a viable and vibrant media vehicle for the Fedora Project again.
- Pascal

[URGENT] We need more release events for Fedora 16
by Christoph Wickert
My fellow ambassadors,
I just looked into the wiki and realized that we don't have enough
release events for Fedora 16 yet:
* APAC: 2
* EMEA: 1
* LATAM: 0
* NA: 0
Come on, we can do better!
If you want to host a Fedora F16 release event, please submit it NOW
because we are already 5 days past the deadline. I think we should
extend the deadline by a week, but on
October, Friday 21st 2011
we really need all release events planned.
If you'd like to host an event, you should
1. create a wiki page. IT should be named
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Release_Party_F15_<your_city>
2. add {{subst:ReleaseParty}} at the top of the page and save it.
3. fill in the details
4. add your page to
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F15_release_events
Of course we are willing to help you where ever we can. If you need
budget, swag or other marketing material, please let us know.
* Budget: file a ticket at https://fedorahosted.org/famsco/
* Swag: file a ticket for
* APAC at https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-apac/
* India at https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-india/
* EMEA at https://fedorahosted.org/emea-swag-tracking/
* NA at https://fedorahosted.org/famnarequests/
* LATAM at
http://rpmdev.proyectofedora.org/projects/embajadores
* Design stuff: file a ticket at
https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ *and* contact the design
team via their mailing list at
design-team(a)lists.fedoraproject.org
As a thank you for your work FAmSCo will sponsor a dinner for you and
your release event team.
If you have any question, don't hesitate to ask on this list.
Regards,
Christoph
