Re: [Ambassadors] CD / DVD stickers needed
by Vali Cobelea
Hi,
Thank you for this info, I'm planning several short presentations about
Fedora Project at the University of Galati, Romania, and I did not know from
where / how to get Fedora 11 CDs / DVDs.

FAmNA Meeting Special Topic: Trademark Guidelines Draft Consideration
by inode0
As stated in the last public Board IRC meeting where the second draft
of the proposed new trademark guidelines were considered the Board is
planning to revisit and possibly approve them at the next public Board
IRC meeting which is next Wednesday. So if we want to provide feedback
(we being NA ambassadors but all ambassadors are welcome to
participate in a discussion here) to the Board we need to consider
these carefully now.
The current draft is here
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Pchestek/TMGuidelinesDraft
Please read it carefully with special attention to the sections
covering our work making promotional items for distribution at events.
Please feel free to ask questions and give your impressions here but
we will largely focus on this subject at our meeting next Tuesday so
we can present the Board with our feedback the following day. This is
important business for ambassadors so please give it careful
consideration.
Thanks,
John

EMEA F17 media production
by Christoph Wickert
Me fellow ambassadors,
it is time to request the budget and a PO for the EMEA F17 media.
Historical figures
|| Release || Media || PO || Used || Ticket ||
|| F14 || 6000 || USD 5000 || || #91 ||
|| F15 || 5000 || USD 5000 || 3876 EUR || #157 ||
|| F16 || 4000 || 4000 EUR || 2448 EUR || #218 ||
Observations
1. We did less and less media throughout the last years
2. I think we have reached the minimum. Jiri only has very few
media left and we still have some more events left in the F16
cycle. And we could have spent more media on some events. AT CLT
we were out of Multi Desktop DVDs and at IDLELO we did not have
enough either.
3. In the F14 cycle we had 1000 media reserved for Africa and I
think we should do this again.
4. In the F15 we had 1000 media reserved for Red Hat Czech. I think
they want to do this again.
5. We managed to dramatically cut the costs by producing in Czech
and placing one big order together with Red Hat. Shipping from
the RH office has also been extremely comfortable so I think we
should go for the Czech vendor again.
Open questions
1. How much media do we need? Go up to 5000 again?
2. Should we investigate the possibility to do the installer DVD as
Dual Layer, too? We already have the tools, we just didn't do it
because we wanted to have a backup for computers that cannot
handle DL. AFAIC the NA ambassadors did it and received no
complaints. We didn't for the Multi Desktop DVD, either.
I have asked Jiri to request the following quotes:
* 2000 Multi Desktop DL, 1000 Installer 32, 1000 Installer 64
(same as last year)
* 3000 Multi Desktop DL, 1000 Installer 32, 1000 Installer 64
* 2000 Multi Desktop DL, 2000 Installer DL
* 3000 Multi Desktop DL, 2000 Installer DL
The 4th option looks good to me. Comments or questionsanybody? Ask here
or at https://fedorahosted.org/famsco/ticket/280
Kind regards,
Christoph

APAC - F16 media is available - make your order now
by Buddhike Kurera
Dear APAC FAms,
Harish has some F16 media (64 bit - DVDs) and as we are reaching F17
it is required to empty those stocks.
Therefore if you want any media for an event or to distribute please
do not hesitate to ask some.
How to order:
Use the APAC trac[1] and open a ticket with details,
* your need
* how much you need
* is there any consideration on shipping in your country (tax etc.)
* anything related
Please do not hesitate to ask if you want, it is better to distribute
them rather keep them in stores.

[Event Report] Document Freedom Workshop 2012, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India, March 28-29, 2012
by Shakthi Kannan
Hi,
I presented an introduction to Publican [1] at the Document Freedom
Workshop 2012 [2] at the Computer and Statistical Service Centre
(CSSC) [3], S N Bose Bhavan, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata
[4], West Bengal, India held between March 28-29, 2012.
Day I
A Mani [5] started the day's proceedings with an introduction to
Free/Libre/Open Source Software, and basic shell commands. We had a
computer lab with Fedora installed where the participants used the
terminal to try out the hands-on exercises.
I then introduced Publican to the audience comprising mostly of
students and faculty. Jared Smith [6] had presented Publican during
FUDCon Pune 2011 [7], and, with his permission, I added more content
and a lab section. The participants were able to use Publican to
create and build documents with Bengali content!
After lunch, Sourav Sen Gupta [8] gave an introduction to LaTeX [9]
and Beamer [10] with his "'Golden Ratio' for Typesetting - A quick and
random introduction to LaTeX and Beamer" presentation. He used the
Kile [11] editor to demonstrate LaTeX markups and for generating PDF
files. I helped the students with the lab session in writing, and
troubleshooting warnings and errors when using Kile with pdflatex.
I also met and spoke with two physicists, John Smolin [12] and Damian
Markham [13], who had come to present at another workshop on
"Information and Security in Quantum World" [14]. John Smolin is an
avid Fedora user!
Day II
The first session on the second day was by Jit Ray Chowdhury [15] on
Moodle [16] CMS. He started with the basics of installing Apache,
MySQL and PHP on Fedora, followed by creating a simple HTML, and PHP
page. Participants then learnt how to install Drupal, Moodle and
configure the same.
Prof. Nagarjuna [17] then started his session on why document freedom
is essential, and gave an introduction to Emacs org-mode [18], with
examples. I also met Krishnakant Mane but couldn't attend his
(post-lunch) session on "LibreOffice and Screen Readers" as I had to
leave early to catch a flight.
Thanks to the organizing committee: Prof. Mandar Mitra [19], A Mani,
Partha Pratim Kundu, Malay Bhattacharya [20], and Tanmay Basu for the
wonderful hospitality, and to Red Hat for sponsoring my travel.
